Is this a weird / unfair request for my neighbour?

I moved into my new house in January. It’s a lovely quiet street with nice neighbours, including the chap I’m attached to. I met him when I first moved here and he invited me in for a quick chat. I haven’t spoken to him much since but told him to knock on if he needed anything. For context his house is open plan (kitchen / lounge and 1 bedroom) mine is the original layout (separate kitchen and lounge and 2 bedrooms) so I think the sound travels a bit more if that makes sense.

Anyway, he likes to play music every now and then. He even mentioned this when I first met him and said he would keep the noise down, no issues. The house was empty for 2 years previously so I think he got use to having nobody there. I don’t mind a bit of music though and I don’t expect people to be silent in their own houses. I’m sure I make noise sometimes too.

He doesn’t play music all day every day, just at random times (7am or 10pm etc). It was 6 this morning and it did wake me up. I’m certain he plays it in his living room but has his bedroom door open (my room is attached to his). I could switch rooms but the spare is a box room so not ideal tbh. Would it be unreasonable for me to ask him to close his bedroom door if he’s going to play music really early or late? I think that would make a difference to the noise travelling. Or should I just let it go because it’s not all day every day and just at random times? I don’t want to fall out with him or upset him!

I'd at least be requesting he doesn't play music super early or super late.

To be fair in annoyed when neighbours play unnecessarily loud music at any time. I don't understand why people have to play it loud, or put their speakers up near the joining wall like my neighbours have. I don't understand how anyone can relax and enjoy the music knowing it's bothering someone else. I don't say anything though because they do it at reasonable times, never super early or late. I just judge them silently lol.

But yeah, 6am is too early really! Just ask him, it sounds like you get on.
