I moved into my new house in January. It’s a lovely quiet street with nice neighbours, including the chap I’m attached to. I met him when I first moved here and he invited me in for a quick chat. I haven’t spoken to him much since but told him to knock on if he needed anything. For context his house is open plan (kitchen / lounge and 1 bedroom) mine is the original layout (separate kitchen and lounge and 2 bedrooms) so I think the sound travels a bit more if that makes sense.
Anyway, he likes to play music every now and then. He even mentioned this when I first met him and said he would keep the noise down, no issues. The house was empty for 2 years previously so I think he got use to having nobody there. I don’t mind a bit of music though and I don’t expect people to be silent in their own houses. I’m sure I make noise sometimes too.
He doesn’t play music all day every day, just at random times (7am or 10pm etc). It was 6 this morning and it did wake me up. I’m certain he plays it in his living room but has his bedroom door open (my room is attached to his). I could switch rooms but the spare is a box room so not ideal tbh. Would it be unreasonable for me to ask him to close his bedroom door if he’s going to play music really early or late? I think that would make a difference to the noise travelling. Or should I just let it go because it’s not all day every day and just at random times? I don’t want to fall out with him or upset him!
