Doomed...I should never buy anything new

I feel like I'm doomed. Every single time I buy anything new for our home, it never lasts long without getting bashed, chipped or scraped. Had to get a new washing machine last year, within 2 weeks there was a scrape on the enamel. I bought some nice new tumblers from M&S a few weeks back. 2 broken within 3 weeks. Got an oven 6 months ago and I've just noticed today that the glass or perspex on the clock has been bullseyed by something, hooved fallen over maybe? (it's a built under so lower down). I live with DH and 3 sons who are early twenties to mid teen. Of course, nobody will admit to breaking anything.

Should I give up on my quest to have a nice home? Am I being unreasonable to expect everyone to try and be a bit more careful!?

“within 2 weeks there was a scrape on the enamel”

OP, my sister had her whole kitchen and utility room done, and at the end of the morning, there was a big dent in the brand new washing machine she’d never even used! The builders blamed the washing machine man: she’s adamant she would have noticed when it was delivered had anything been amiss. She has painted over the chipped paint with Humbrol enamel and appreciates that it’s very much a first world problem, but I feel your pain!

Well, that's a good tip on the enamel paint, thank you!
