Feedback from summer born who started school later

Hi,

I often see threads from parents with a summer born child and consensus seem to defer starting school.
I’m wondering though, what is the feedback from the grown-up deferred children? Did anybody here started school a year later - what do you think about it?

Context: I skipped a year (YR) and have always felt like this had ‘gained’ me a year. As a result 1) I’m very surprised at the advice given to parents on MN, 2) I always wondered if the children are annoyed about it later in life

I'm started at 5 and I was a late summer baby. I don't really have any feedback, I was still one of the youngest in the class. I didn't know any different. I think you go with when your child seems ready to go to school and if that means waiting a year then so be it. Think it's harder to do now though.

My child eventually was allowed to be in the more appropriate year, y9. They have have thrived since. At just age 4 they were expected to be equivalent, to girls without special needs who are highly academic. Didn't work. Funnily enough my child was the only one in YR who could actually eat properly at lunchtime with knives, forks, and peas eaten correctly. The only people who were surprised at that were school staff. My kid was always brought up with good manners.
