i called them earlier and I was told they’ll contact me back today. I haven’t heard anything and they’re due to close soon x

Each council and HA have different banding policies.

Normally most tho you completed an application online.

You have to apply online in my area.

What's your AIBU?

You must wait for them to contact you back then. If you've applied for council housing I think it depends a lot on your level of need. Ie, are you currently homeless, do you have kids, disabilities, what is your current housing set up etc.
I know it's a very long waiting list, sometimes many years depending on the area.
They may well say you need to go private. Do you claim housing benefit currently?

It also depends on how long you've lived in the local area. If you've not lived there for a couple years or more and don't have family there they may tell you to try and claim in the area you lived in for longer.
But you can get HB/UC to pay your rent privately if you're in financial hardship.
I wish you luck x
