Call the Midwife

I’m watching Call the Midwife from the beginning, not seen the episodes before. I find Trixie irritating. Really up herself and a shirty little madam. I think it hits a nerve as I know a few similar people IRL.
Does anyone know what I mean?

I suspect she’ll grow on you, she does seem a bit of a madam at first!

Bodonka · 21/04/2025 16:37

She grew on me!

JohnTheRevelator · 21/04/2025 16:46

Oh I have to disagree! I loved Trixie right from the beginning. She's so over the top!

DaphneDahlia · 21/04/2025 18:30

Ok. I’ll keep watching and hope she grows on me. At the moment she’s making my teeth itch

She's not perfect but underneath all the frivolous stuff she's a devoted midwife with a strong moral compass.

gamerchick · 21/04/2025 18:32

Nah Trixie's mint. I always ended up feeling relieved when she turned up for a crisis birth. Capable.

She'll grow on you.

MsNevermore · 21/04/2025 18:33

She will grow on you.
A couple of seasons in, there’s an emergency where all the houses are evacuated to the community centre where they hold the weekly clinic…..you get a bit of Trixie’s backstory there. It’s heartbreaking but very much a product of the time and explains a lot regarding her personality

worriedmum7777 · 21/04/2025 19:24

I have never grown to like Trixie. She just annoys me.

AlertCat · 21/04/2025 19:32

Mum used to watch this. What was the first decade they did? I saw an advert which made me think they’re at the 1970s now, but at one a year does that mean they started in the 1800s!?

RubyJack · 21/04/2025 19:42

I think Series 1 is set in 1957.
I have worked up to series 13 from the start recently.

Itsagreatdaytosavelives · 21/04/2025 19:54

ah trixie is the best. her backstory will break your heart!

Ahh, I assumed it was a series per decade. Thanks.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 21/04/2025 20:13

She’ll grow on you.

Darkambergingerlily · 21/04/2025 20:15

I can’t remember her being annoying. I love her

RubyJack · 21/04/2025 20:17

I think series 14 is around 1969/70

Obeseandashamed · 21/04/2025 20:24

Oh I love Trixie!

HÆLTHEPAIN · 21/04/2025 20:28

I love Trixie too!

I only just started watching CTM at the beginning of the year and I’ve binge watched it twice through now! I love it. And I spend a lot of time in the house so it’s nice just to have on in the background too.

CarpetKnees · 21/04/2025 21:02

I agree that she grows on you.

SharpOpalNewt · 21/04/2025 21:05

Sister Veronica hasn't grown on me. Other than like a massive verruca.

ScrewedByFunding · 21/04/2025 21:09

Trixie is my fav!

TheeNotoriousPIG · 21/04/2025 21:59

The earlier series were much better, at least in my humble opinion! I miss the days when it was full of Chummy and Patsy, with the occasional grim storyline thrown in, rather than everything being full of sunshine and daisies, because life isn't always like that.

I also can't warm to most of the newer members of the cast... and what happened to Fred's wheeling and dealing? I liked it when he had the pet pig and got warnings from the police!

Disposableusername374 · 21/04/2025 22:03

I really like how it’s evolving, showing us what became of the welfare state.

Soo, who would we all pick to deliver our babies then? I think I’d want Nurse Crane.

DaphneDahlia · 21/04/2025 22:04

Love Sister Evangelina. No nonsense, get on with it attitude.

I love her very much but she’d be a bit too old school for me, no patience with maternal choice, but caring down to her bones.

I’m part way through season 3 on a rewatch. The sequence of her and Mrs Jenkins farting makes me cry.

McQueensMuse · 21/04/2025 22:14

The Mrs Jenkins storyline in the book had me proper ugly crying.

I think Trixie will grow on you.

I miss sister Evangelina, though I wouldn’t want her to deliver my baby.
She could assist Nurse Crane though. 😁
