To rather attend a wedding ceremony then a reception

Just a thought really. But I'd rather attend a wedding ceromony then a reception.

A) more strict starts time
B) no cash bar
C) something to watch without having to be involved
D) no waiting around for photos/pre reception crap

When did attending the reception become the default part-wedding experiance ?

That’s all we do. We always decline breakfast/reception invitations; too boring and time consuming.

Dress up, attend ceremony, wish them well, job done. No weekend wasted.

That's the meaningful bit, the vows, the commitment, the support. YANBU

Why would you be unreasonable for preferring this? Confused

Personally I find the ceremony boring and would much prefer to go to the party. Each to their own.

Me too, I cry at every wedding and really enjoy them. It's the important bit.

Wedding receptions I find all very much of a muchness.

Of course it’s not unreasonable for this to be your preference.
I find the ceremony can get boring, not too much these days if it’s not too long, but if it’s a church wedding that lasts ages it is. But of course that is the main reason for the event - to actually get married. But I like the food and dancing!

I really do wonder what sort of weddings MN people go to since they hate them so much. I'd rather attend the reception (party) if I had to choose, that's the fun bit. Although a reception with a cash bar sounds very tragic, I have never been to a wedding like that
