Shops selling dead/unwatered bedding plants

Every year, retailers such as supermarkets and retailers such as B&Q, B&M sell bedding plants. Each year, they end up dead as I know that supermarket staff don’t get extra hours to water them, a friend got a stern telling off from a manager about 6 years ago. Or, get stuck outside in weather such as last week’s.

Why do retailers still sell bedding plants when the vast majority gets chucked as dead? Seen B&Q selling dead plants with no green leaves for 50p.

Either allocate hours for staff to water plants or stop selling them

I feel like this is something that must only happen occasionally. It seems unlikely that retailers would routinely invest in stock that they subsequently throw away or sell at a loss.

It’s so sad. Sometimes I buy some of them just so I can give them a drink. I also tell shop assistants… and recently I watered about a hundred dying plants at Aldi myself (a guard gave me multiple buckets of water)

I'm afraid that our local Range store is another culprit.

YANBU. I hate this, it shows such contempt for living things. It's worth complaining to the shop assistants and telling them to pass it on to the manager. Or contact head office, or take a photo and shame the shop on social media.

Agree 100% op. The waste is ridiculous.

My local Asda does this too. It makes me sad. I brought a dying Christmas tree for a small price a couple of years ago, now it's thriving in a pot in my garden. They must realise it's stupid and a waste. I saw the staff throwing the dead ones away yesterday morning so the time it took to do that they could have watered the plants.

I bloody love a dead corner rescue!!! Had full trees for a fiver! My garden is beautiful for a 1/4 of the price!

agree tho that this shouldn’t happen but even garden centres are culprits
