I’ve never known Easter later than this. Anyone else?

I know Mothering Sunday (3 weeks before Easter) was in April in 2000 because it was the day I brought DS2 home from hospital

DD’s birthday is the end of March. My first Mothering Sunday as a mother was with a 1 year old.

What actually decides when Easter is?

1st Sunday after the first (theoretical) full moon after the 20th??? March.

It means that there is a period of nearly 5 weeks when Easter can be with the more central dates more likely.

What actually decides when Easter is?

The First Council of Nicaea convened by the Roman Emperor Constantine in the year 325. They set the rules which have been followed ever since, though slightly modified by the adoption of the Gregorian calendar.
The rules are:

  • The vernal equinox occurs on March 21,
  • the ecclesiastical full moon is the 14th day of a tabular lunation (new moon), and
  • Easter falls on the first Sunday following the first ecclesiastical full moon that occurs on or after the day of the vernal equinox.
