To wish more places had a drive thru?

Whenever I get McDonald's it's because it's the only thing I can get drive thru. There are lots of times where this is really helpful- I have a young child who naps in the car, and I work a job where I'm often on the road going from place to place all over the city and surrounding boroughs. I either can't leave my car without walk g toddler and bringing with, or don't have time to locate somewhere and find parking. I do bring snacks with me but I'm not always able to plan ahead for a meal on the go.
I know there are 'healthier' options but I wish I could access more variety.
I have wondered on the past why there aren't more outlets with a drive thru! It would be great to get a curry and rice even!

Kfc and burger king do here. Also Costa and Starbucks.

AusBoundDD · 17/04/2025 21:08

I wish there were less drive-thrus! They always seem to have lower food standards and just encourage laziness.

Arlanymor · 17/04/2025 21:09

That's about where you choose to live though surely? I live in a city and there are PLENTY of drive thru options here - I can get McDonalds, Starbucks, KFC, you name it really.

I'd rather like a drive through library. Order your books online, and they are ready for you when you arrive. Or like an Amazon locker...

(Lical library is only open in the mornings so not accessible if you work.)

I saw drive thru alcohol shops in Australia, but that likely isn't the shop you are looking for OP. 😆

I also saw a drive through laundrette somewhere.

I saw them too!! Amazes me that these exist in a country with such strict alcohol licensing laws

I agree it might be convenient but it’s pretty lazy op! I do think the future will have more drive throughs, even more apps to order food, everything delivered straight to your door! Less reasons to do anything for ourselves… I know it’s just the way the world is, but it’s making us all so lazy! The less we do the less we will want to do.

SundayNightBluesAreHere · 17/04/2025 21:16

When my children were a bit younger, I often wished that you could drive thru somewhere to just pick up some bread, milk, etc… to save getting them all out of the car, herding them around the shops, etc…

Ah yeah there is the odd KFC and burger king, although many more McDonald', but it's all the same type of thing
I do go for a KFC ricebox occasionally
But why not a drive thru noodle bar or toastie place 😬

We've got a drive thru Greggs here. What a time to be alive!

And McDs, Burger King, KFC, Starbucks and Costa.

SnowFrogJelly · 17/04/2025 21:19

The drive through here causes big traffic queues.. how about cooking OP

I'd love this too! Drive thru library click and collect and return would be great!

Drive thru Gregg's would be great! Mexican chicken flatbread would do me nicely!
(And maybe an occasional yum yum)

I heard that in USA they have drive thru banks and pharmacies! That would be amazing when you have little kids and don't want to get them in and out of the car to queue in a bank or in a pharmacy.

AgathaMystery · 17/04/2025 21:22

The US city I lived in the1990’s had drive thru EVERYTHING. Goodwill, banks, post office, dry cleaning - almost every restaurant regardless of if it was a chain or not - DQ, BK, KFC etc of course. but the most baffling was the very high up mail boxes at the end of drive ways - so you’d fill or empty your mail box from your car/truck and not have to walk down your drive on foot to do it. The mind boggles.

Yeah I agree and disagree to a certain extent.

I would love to go to the local high street and grave the artisan delis etc, and use physical shops instead of Amazon. However trying to park anywhere near, then walk in, and locate what I need etc- hard with my little one grizzling, and no time to do it in a working day

It is the way of the world really- I miss having a weekday off pre kids when I could just idly go about errands!

We do cook our tea every night, but 8 hours into a 12 hour shift my packed lunch is long since consumed and I end up getting something else to keep going. Similarly I've often taken DC to soft play or somewhere and whilst they've had adequate snacks and food I've just had a coffee, and then they fall asleep in the car!
I can get a wrap of the day from maccys or just nibble on leftover car snacks- I tend to go for the former

Totally agree. My two toddlers both nap in the car and McDs is 10 mins drive away. It's the only drive thru for 45 mins any direction, except other McDonald's! I would LOVE a Costa or Starbucks like the American Instagram posters all seem to have. Instead I make do with my toffee lattes.

HiCandles · 17/04/2025 21:37

Drive through post office and convenience shop would be brilliant. Parcels sit for so long waiting for me to face lugging both children out the car just for a 2 mins job.

Luckypinkduck · 17/04/2025 21:40

There is a place called chaiwala up north that does curry and Indian style wraps as a drive thru. It's great!

modgepodge · 17/04/2025 21:40

I also wish drive through shops exist where you could grab bread, milk, etc. it’s such a faff with young children getting them out the car to grab a few bits especially if they’re sleeping in the car. End up going home and going out again later.

We also have a drive thru Greggs just opened!
