Public Sewer and pumping - house boundary

We are seeing a house which has a lowerground floor/basement and there is public manhole in the garden of the basement that has foul sewer come from neighbours and then go to the pumping station beside the house and pump up to ground level.

Thames water owns the pumps, but i am worried about the pumping failure and sewer blockaged that may cause flooding in our basement, is this a deal breaker ?

You need to find out if there is a non return valve in the sewer
