Can food in this specific context have this effect on you?

Say you’ve had an absolute shit day - maybe you’ve had an argument with your partner and they’ve said something that’s hit a nerve. Would ordering a takeaway not turn your mood completely around? Something you completely adore with a nice glass of wine. For me I would be ordering from our local Lebanese restaurant- chicken taouk, spicy potatoes and plenty of tabbouleh 🤤

For me this is absolutely the case. I was speaking to friends today and they ALL said “of course not” lol. Made feel like a right weirdo!

I did have a horrible childhood and definitely self soothed with food.

It’s kind of insane how food can instantly transform my mood. I was thinking there is nothing on this planet that can do the same. Maybe my dog but food still edges out

I am a healthy weight btw

Just the wine would turn my mood around 😀

For compulsive eaters yes absolutely . I had a difficult childhood and self soothed using food from an early age. I relate completely to what you're saying . I know not everyone with BED is obese or even overweight but many are, and I do find it hard to bite my tongue when people say that being fat is just a willpower issue. I have found Overeater s Anonymous helpful but my recovery has been a bit on and off. I don't think there's a magic cure.

I’m the same but I’d buy myself flowers and a posh M&S meal rather than a takeaway! Same principle though, a treat to make the rubbish day better. Your friends sound a bit mean.
