Child accessing porn stories

Reposting this with a different title as the thread I posted yesterday was hardly seen. I'm genuinely horrified by what has happened and need to warn as many people as possible.

AiBU to warn you of Character ai.

i thought we were pretty clued up parents. We have spoke with dd (13) about dangers of online activities, about effects of porn (because we found out a close friend of hers was accessing), we have her phone locked down to approved apps, and adult content blocked and I regularly check her phone/messages. However yesterday I checked her Internet browsing and found a tab opened on character ai. This is not flagged as an adult website however my dd has managed to access and talk to characters with explicit stories. I've googled and apparently character ai do not allow this but its not true! Its very easy to find/create stories with inappropriate content. I will be reporting to them but doubt it will change! We've blocked access directly now obviously but I'm so upset she has been exposed to this.

I’d chill out a bit- YABU. I was reading all sorts of things on Archive of our Own from aged 10 and it hasn’t done me any harm. I also think written porn does not have the same ethical problems as visual porn. It tends to be written by women for women.

And she is 13, not primary aged. She will be seeing stuff on her friends phones all the time. Do you not remember being a teenager? Character AI seems very tame in comparison

I can't believe you actually think it's ok for a 13 year old to access porn so long as it's written porn.

OP I saw your other thread and looked at the site and I agree with you it's very worrying.

Yeah its a chat bot, but I think the characters are written by other users. They are explicit and frankly disturbing characters sge is interacting with. 100% not suitable for a 13 year old.

If it's very extreme e.g. strangulation etc then this is worrying but once i got internet as a teenager i was definitely reading AO3 mulder and scully sexy stories. I do think a lot of these are written by women from a female perspective and would see this differently to regular porn.

But if it's AI i suppose that's more difficult to navigate

No I'm with you I had this issue with my dd we've taken her Internet brower away because of it. As there's so many of them if you block the one site she can easily access another.

It's a chat bot but you go back and forth with it. So she's replying to the sex talk with her own. It can get pretty extreme.

There's been a few story's in the news about character ai with one boy killing himself over it. I appreciate that other factors was also at play and don't think it's a common case.
