37 weeks pregnant, daughter has chickenpox

I was going to post this at 4am but didn't, then woke up feeling a bit calmer about it. However I just read through the other chickenpox thread and it has sent me spiralling again with everyone up in arms about how dangerous it is in pregnancy.

My 4 year old has chickenpox she picked up at nursery. A few weeks ago in anticipation I asked midwives to have my bloods checked for immunity and they said I have it which did put my mind at ease.

Should I still be worried? Can I get it again? Is immunity a guarantee? Has anyone had a child catch it this late in pregnancy and been fine? Should I be doing something about it? My daughter has pretty much been stuck to me for the last 4 days.

Good luck, OP, hope everything is ok. The fact the midwife checked and you had immunity is reassuring. I think I read that it’s extremely rare to catch chicken pox twice.

Not quite the same, but my DS had it when my DD was a newborn (literally days old). I was very worried. The doctor told me hopefully she would have antibodies from me. Indeed, neither of us caught it, and when DD did have 3 years later it was very mild, as if though she had some immunity from being exposed to DS.

My husband and daughter both had chickenpox when I was about 6 months pregnant. Everything was absolutely fine, well not for DH, he looked like an alien.

Thanks both, that is reassuring!

You’ll be fine and much better she has it now than in a few weeks when you have a newborn

I'm sure you will be fine. I had immunity, I was working in a nursery with 2 pregnancies, there was an outbreak of chicken pox during both pregnancies and I was fine.

My older child had chicken pox right over the due date of my younger child. He ended up being 2 weeks late anyway, but all was fine.

My eldest had chicken pox when I was pregnant with my youngest and everything was fine. In fact, I think it gave the youngest some immunity (activating my antibodies or something?) as she came into contact with it several times as a young child and only got it much later on when it was clearly a particularly bad one as at that point my eldest actually got it again and was really badly ill with it. Obviously that is only one experience but if the midwife says you have immunity then I really don't think you need to worry.

Yes definitely relieved it's come out now rather than 3 weeks time! Just have to hope this baby doesn't make an early appearance 😅
