Would you go away for 2 days if your cat was missing?

Assuming you'd lose a lot of money if you didn't go. And someone was helping search for the cat/leaving out food in those 2 days.

I would go. It’s only 2 days and another human is watching for them.

RavenT · 10/04/2025 18:33

No. I miss and worry about my pets when I'm on holiday and they're OK.

UndermyShoeJoe · 10/04/2025 18:36

I’d go. My cats are all microchipped and we have people coming and going multiple times a day. Would just leave the lodge open and put extra food and water out there.

Yellowpingu · 10/04/2025 20:01

I’d probably go in those circumstances but would set the lock on the cat flap so they could get into the house but not out again. And I’d be constantly checking in with the person putting the food down and the person searching.

CheekyPombear · 10/04/2025 23:44

No. I would be worrying too much.

Dutchhouse14 · 10/04/2025 23:52

I'd go and wouldn't cancel an expensive planned trip, especially if it was for a big event like a wedding.
If a neighbour or relative was putting food down and searching then it would be very reassuring but I would be worried about my cat but I don't think I'd cancel.
However it it a trip that was the easily rearranged and didn't involve much if any loss of money, like visiting a friend or relative, then I'd postpone..

SpringIsSpringing25 · 10/04/2025 23:59

No I wouldn't.

I'd want to be doing everything I could to find them,

I wouldn't enjoy it at all, the money is already spent with you go or not (if you can't get a refund) so I go just to not enjoy it??

Cara707 · 11/04/2025 00:13

Definitely not!

FeministUnderTheCatriarchy · 11/04/2025 01:03

Absolutely not. I don't care how much money I would lose. I would be walking the streets looking for them constantly.

I wouldn't sleep on holiday, let alone at home whilst actively searching.

A cat is far less likely to come to a stranger.

If it had only just happened then no, but if it was months ago then yes.

This. My DS's cat went missing 4 years ago at the same time as a Bengal and 2 Mainecoon's. We put up notices, offered rewards. We never got her pack and she was microchipped. The vet said they were probably stolen to breed from. The thing is all were neutered so no breeding would be possible. Vet said once thieves realised they couldn't breed from them they'd be abandoned somewhere, just dumped. I still dream of her occasionally and that she finds her way home.

My cat went missing in August. I had to go away for 2 nights with my elderly father about 2 weeks later. I really didn't want to go and was frantic most of the time we were away. But to cancel on my dad would have been cruel as he'd been looking forward to it. I just had to suck it up as it was only for 3 nights and during that time I still was receiving phone calls (and prank calls 🙄) and my husband went out to check on any possible sightings.

He's been gone for so long now that I don't think it would make a difference to us going away. We have a catflap and 3 other cats so if he came back there would be food for him. Plus we'd have lovely neighbours checking on the other cats so they could see if he was back/injured.

I have to say though, I would have given a lot not to have gone away on that trip with my dad. It really killed me inside not to be out at all hours looking for him. Not that the hours of looking made any difference unfortunately.

Having said that, I'm sure in the future I'll be glad I did take that trip (it was 3 nights, not 2) with my dad as that won't always be possible. I still wanted to be pounding the streets at the time though!
