To not give more to charity?

I regularly shop at my local Hospice charity shop. But now they’ve started asking you to donate £1 at the till as well.

Aibu to think this isn’t necessary?

I don’t donate anything to charity as most don’t actually benefit, I try to give as much as I can to people I know who may be struggling instead

It's not a bad idea if it's a self-service till, as your response is private. I would definitely say no if a cashier asked me to donate money with my shopping.
