Mother picking on my eating

ForRealMember · 08/04/2025 18:58

My mother seems to be obsessed with food/food waste and how much I am eating. I am not overweight - maybe a size 12-14 and very fit. She is a size 8 and very obsessed with looks. Every time I eat she comments on whether I need the food/that it's too much. It really upsets me. I am tempted to talk to her but she's not great at accepting that she's done anything wrong.

Mothers everywhere. Tune it out?

Yep I feel sorry for mine, she’s obsessed. Just roll with it.

Laugh and tell her to get a grip. Then eat what you want. I always think people look better with some weight on them.

Okay so it seems like a common problem - I probably need to tell her to pipe down. My diet was very restricted as a child and as soon as I had freedom I became a very overweight teen. Flashes me back to those years with a very glam mum vrs me

Completely and obviously ignore her and see if that works first, doubt that it will though, In that case say something to her about keeping her neurosis surrounding food to herself and that you have no desire to be a size 8

@ForRealMember there is nothing worse than someone watching and commenting on what you are eating. Just say if she doesn't like it look elsewhere 😑 sending sympathy, my dads the same. Told me I was fat on my birthday of all days 😂

londongirl12 · 08/04/2025 19:29

Just be firm with her. Tell her it upsets you. And if she carries on, don’t see her when something involves food. She’ll soon stop when she’s not invited round for dinner anymore!!

lovemycbf · 08/04/2025 19:55

I’d tell her to mind her own business
your body your choice what you eat.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 08/04/2025 19:59

Is she on Mumsnet?

Tell her to fuck off.

MissHollysDolly · 08/04/2025 20:01

Carry on what you’re eating but do it loudly with your mouth open, taking a few good slurps of tea. Even better if you do it in public. She’ll stop
