Mumsnet threads being read out on tiktok

I know a lot of people on here aren't on tiktok so I thought I might post just to make people aware. People often mention ending up in the daily mail but this is new to me.

I was scrolling today and heard a woman telling a story about her MIL, after a few sentences I realised she was reading a thread from a few days ago on here. She didn't say it was a thread, it was a video of her telling it like her own story and the comments were people responding as though they thought it was happening to her.

I think it's a bit shit to take a situation where someone was asking for help and use it to earn money tbh. But I suppose that's the risk you take in posting.

Anyway, just a heads up really as there's a huge audience on tiktok and a good chance of being outed.

Could it have been her who wrote the MN post? Was she mocking the post, or trying to seek advice?
If it resonated with her I guess she's free to read it out. I don't see why anyone would watch it though?

Could it of been her who posted on here?

Upon further inspection she reads a lot of stories out on her page. But she starts it off "let's talk about my MIL" and carries on talking about it in the first person like it's her own story. So I don't think she's the OP.

Oh God 🥺

I can be kind of outing on here at times, I'm gonna have to scale it way back

I never say anything offensive imo, leftie opinions etc but I talk about my dd and cat 😄

Someone's put all of their pain into a post and some kid has used it for content, so horrible, yanbu

That's the risk of an open forum. Chat GPT is probably lifting a lot of information/advice too.

This is a completely public forum. You don’t even need a log-in. It’s like when people complain about a thread getting picked up by a tabloid or shared on Twitter - you have posted something on a public forum where anyone can read or use it as they please. Posting on Mumsnet and then suggesting that people shouldn’t share what they’ve read is a bit like standing in the high street shouting your private business through a megaphone and then berating passers-by for gossiping about it.

FWIW - 99% of people on TikTok aren’t making money.

I do realise that, but like @mumofoneAlonebutokay I think taking the post of someone who is suffering and using it for personal gain is just not a nice thing to do.

The "creator" in question has views ranging from tens of thousands several million so I'm sure she did it with the expectation of getting paid.

It's kind of in poor taste, imo, like a lot of the Internet trends

That viral sounds of 'now I'm panicking' comes from a video of a pedophile hunter group cornering a man, and people use it for jokes
