Strep….sick with anxiety.

Sorry if this threads all over the place I have extremely bad health anxiety.
Wednesday night/Thursday DD who’s 5 seemed to have a temp, flushed face, off certain foods and generally abit quiet. She did perk up after calpol. I did think it was her throat however found a big molar growing in her mouth.
Shes not had a temp since and hasn’t had any calpol/neurofen but is being abit finicky with food, alert, playing and seems generally okay. Not lethargic or anything.

Today I woke up and my throats sore, my tonsils are red and inflamed, heads sore and I’ve had a funny stuck sneeze feeling in my nose today. I feel COVID-y as I’ve also had stomach ache and abit of diarrhoea.
I dont have any white patches or swollen glands.

Im really worried. If this is strep will my DD be okay even though she’s had no antibiotics? Or am I best off going to the walk in centre with us both tomorrow. I am unsure whether I will need them anyway as I have very large tonsils already.

Sorry if I’m coming across as neurotic I have a lot going on at the minute and DD’s health seems to be something I get worked up on.

Sounds like whatever your daughter has had, she has fought it off.
I would see how you are on Monday.

CoconutSky · 05/04/2025 22:37

She’s been sneezing a fair bit tonight. I felt like this when I had Covid the first time but I’ve tested negative. Apologies again if I come across abit crazy I do have awful health anxiety.

You need to get help for your health anxiety.

your dd is teething.

If you had strep throat you would know about it. Your tonsils would have white patches on and they would be agony.

your dd sounds fine. Wait and see how your throat goes.

It sounds like you have a sore throat/cold.

CoconutSky · 05/04/2025 22:53

I'm currently awaiting therapy. Do they have teething symptoms at this age?

It sounds like mild cold. You don't need to be going to the walk in centre or the gp or anywhere else. It will run its course. Take some paracetamol.

Endofyear · 05/04/2025 23:44

Sounds like you have a virus. Take paracetamol, drink plenty of fluids and rest. You will be fine in a few days. Your DD probably had a virus/cold too or may just have felt a bit off colour with a molar coming through.

Clairey1986 · 05/04/2025 23:54

Hugs as anxiety is horrendous especially was you’re physically unwell too.

DD sounds like she will be fine. I’ve 3 kids and the youngest was in and out of hospital non stop (it felt) as a baby with bronchiolitis. I spoke several times to the consultants about when/if to come in as he always had evidence of breathing difficulty but sats were ok and didn’t need oxygen or feeding support (but was close they said).

Every one said they look at the child not the numbers/objective presence of things e.g. spots on tonsils or size of tonsils or temperature. They said if the child is not lethargic, eating a bit, drinking a bit, they would never be overly concerned.

I hope you both feel better soon ❤️‍🩹

Clairey1986 · 05/04/2025 23:55

Oh and yes they can have teething symptoms at 5/6 for the back molars coming in.

CoconutSky · 06/04/2025 14:11

Ive actually got white patches on my throat today. I don’t know where I stand with DD. Do I take her for antibiotics because I’m almost sure it’s her I got it off.

Butterflyfern · 06/04/2025 14:13

If your DD is now well she doesn't need antibiotics

Coffeeishot · 06/04/2025 14:17

If your Dd is well she doesn't need antibiotics they won't give her any if she isn't ill with an infection, you sound like you have the flu that half the country has had it is horrible but it will pass,if you are not feeling better in a day or so phone the gp to see what they say, but it doesn't sound like you need to get your dd seen.

CoconutSky · 06/04/2025 14:23

I just worry that untreated strep could go into something else.

You can buy tests at big supermarkets or online. amzn.eu/d/1pNd96m

Streaaa · 06/04/2025 14:26

My daughter had this, this week.
White patches meant it needed an antibiotic, otherwise it could be just viral and would pass according to my GP.
The antibiotic did the trick quickly, her first ever as it happens, at 18.

It is doing the rounds.

JustAMum31 · 06/04/2025 14:27

@CoconutSky If your DD had Strep that required antibiotics she would still be showing symptoms. Our whole household had it last year and it’s the most horrific I’ve ever felt!!

DS had the sore throat, fever, headaches, full body rash etc. DH and I had horrendous headaches and sore throat.

CoconutSky · 06/04/2025 14:37

She’s been fine since Friday. No temp or rash or anything.

Then she's fine.

Used pharmacy first and managed to get some penicillin. Great start to the Easter break!

For you?

BellissimoGecko · 06/04/2025 17:43

Right. Your dd is clearly fine now - why would you want to treat her for anything?

You may have strep throat, if white patches have appeared. There is a test you can buy at chemists that will tell you. But your GP will treat you for your symptoms. They won’t test for strep throat.

WhySoManySocks · 06/04/2025 17:46

Strep doesn’t come with sneezing.

Tiswa · 06/04/2025 17:49

DD gave DS scarlet fever she has less than 24 hours symptoms he ended up on an iv drip

For you?

Yes for me sorry should’ve clarified.
I think the whole strep stuff in the news just put fear into me. I didn’t think it could disappear itself
