I’m sat feeling really sorry for myself. On Sunday night I was coughing and ended up being sick and a lot of blood came up. My throat was killing me. I ended up being diagnosed as having a Mallory Weiss tear and tonsillitis. Currently on penicillin.

Yesterday afternoon my left eye was aching. My right is fine. It then turned into visual disturbances can’t see out of it and unable to open it. I’m sat with it closed and it just running like a tap. What’s going on??

Don’t mess around with eyes just go get it checked out. Maybe an infection or inflammation.

Acc0untant · 05/04/2025 18:51

Anyone could claim to be medically trained and actually be lying through their teeth. Go get seen to by an actual professional.

You mean in a&e. Surely I can’t go to a&e again. I was only there a few days ago as I went due to coughing up blood. What if they think I’m wasting their time

More than likely, it’s an infection. Anything you can get in your upper or lower respiratory system can pretty much go in your eye. But given the other complications, I think I’d want it seen by out of hours. I’d ring 111.

olympicsrock · 05/04/2025 18:55

I’m a doctor . I don’t know what is going on but I do know that you don’t mess about with eye problems . Phone 111 and they will make an appointment for you with GP out of hours or eye emergency care.

ThePinkPowerRangers · 05/04/2025 18:56

You really need to be seen, from what you’ve written.

Don't know if it's the same everywhere, but when I had an eye problem, my GP surgery suggested I went straight to the local hospital's eye A&E dept. (I didn't know there was such a thing!) I didn't have to wait long and I'm sure I got the best treatment.

Thank you. Obviously the gp is closed. Maybe I should just go and see. Get super nervous at being seen as a time waster

What did a and e say . My guess is if it gets worse come back . With eye sight please don't take a chance it may be dangerous get it seen to please as doctors are closed at the week end the hospital would think you are being sensible with something like that you won't get an answer from mums net or the Internet.A and E won't say any thing and if you go soon the hospital won't be full up

You were not wasting their time last time so why would they think you were this time.
and your eye is weeping

it’s either an alien contagious. Or it’s something they can help you with.

SnakesAndArrows · 05/04/2025 19:10

You’re being ridiculous. Go to A&E. So what if they think you’re wasting their time?(They won’t, it’s only ignorant Mumsnetters that go on and on about time wasting.)

Allmarbleslost · 05/04/2025 19:11

Don't mess about with eyes. 111 or a&e.

Don't be nervous about that. In my experience, they are always glad that you went - better that than something serious being missed. It's the people who aren't bothered about time-wasting who usually are!

Call 111. They’ll likely advise you to go to A+E and you’ll feel better about going because someone medical told you to! Good luck.

TTC1x · 05/04/2025 19:38

Are you in London, OP? If you are you can call a MECS, if not I’d call 111 and they will direct you to your nearest eye casualty. I’m not a doctor but I do work in Ophthalmology, it is probably best you get seen.

mintydoggyv · 05/04/2025 20:19

What did a and e say the last time. If ever one is told they can go from hospital they normally say come back if it's worse what ever it is there is a thing called sepsis . It's up to you but one would advise seeking medical help

Optic neuritis as I can’t see through the eye. Quite painful. I’ve got my own cubicle so I’m quite lucky. Going to try and relax until I learn more. Thank you for asking

Eyes are an extension of your actual brain, so yes, please take poorly eyes to be checked out properly.

Yes they’ve made me feel I’m not wasting their time. I’ve never heard of optic neuritis
