I thought I’d ran out of coffee and I can’t nip out now the children are in bed.
I’ve just come across some ground coffee in a packet at the back of the cupboard but it’s out of date by just over 18 months. Would you?

God this is hard work

The poster who referenced getting some beans, is not likely to have meant right now. The poster is likely to have meant overall, in the long run, keep roasted beans in the house and then they'll be freshly ground at the time you want them rather than relying on bags in the cupboard.

Not for the OP to run out there and then to get some beans during this particular dilemma

I need a coffee now and I dont even drink the stuff

You could be right, I'm sure their must be some people who, when asked for an immediate solution to a problem, offer a future option with no context or acknowledgement that it's answering a different question but unless that poster returns we'll never know.

No idea why you'd say that, you seem determined to make excuses for someone else with no basis for those excuses. Obviously @JohnofWessex will say now that their suggestion wasn't meant to be taken as an answer to the OPs question but come on, that's not likely to be the case is it?

It’s not expired. It’s Best Before.

There's a coffee shop in Tokyo that brews 20 year old coffee beans, and a sock as a filter, so I think you'll be fine. Maybe it'll taste even better?

FGS are you seriously suggesting that the OP pops over to Tokyo for coffee when her kids are in bed? Bit unreasonable
