Children’s party (reception)

Hi all,

My son will turn 6 in May. So far the ‘done’ thing among parents is to invite the full class to the party via the parent WhatsApp and most parents say their child will attend. (Class is about 30)

We live in a fairly affluent area where I’m sure a lot of people can afford this but I simply cannot.

I would prefer to invite the boys only as my son only really plays with the boys in the class and there is about 10 of them.

AIBU to do this? And how DO i do this? Invites to the teacher to stick in their bags? I feel so rude not inviting everyone but it’s sooo expensive when I’ve looked at the prices for soft plays etc assuming the entire class is coming😳

It’s fine to only invite some children - my DS is in Year 1 and there are lots of parties for smaller groups (that DS is or isn’t invited to). It’s normally done via WhatsApp to the specific parents at our school. Teachers won’t get involved in giving out invites unless it’s for everyone.
