To think it’s absolute nonsense - Monzo transfer

Evening all,
Bit of a sense check. I already know the answer here but just want you to confirm it. Someone who asked me to lend some money last week ‘for an hour’ as an emergency, and has been promising to send it back every day for almost a week now has promised me she transferred it on Monday and there is just a problem with the bank. She says she’s had this problem a few times before with it taking so long to arrive. She banks with Monzo not that I think it matters. She just hasn’t transferred it has she? I’m not even bothered about the money to be honest but it’s the principle and all the lies are getting very annoying…

We bank with Monzo and transactions are instant sorry.

TokyoSushi · 02/04/2025 16:55

Nope, it's nonsense, Monzo are really good, I have an account and there are no issues at the moment.

TigerRag · 02/04/2025 16:55

It's instant for me too. Even when I transfer from my Nationwide account

Noshowlomo · 02/04/2025 16:56

Monzo are probably the quickest for me! She’s lying

BlondeMummyto1 · 02/04/2025 16:56

They are likely to be lying. Can’t they prove the transaction on their end? Send it to you via standard banking?

Anyone who needs money for one hour should be able to wait one hour until they have their own money.

Rooroobear · 02/04/2025 16:58

Yep always been instant for me too. I transfer into my Monzo from my Barclays and it always go straight in. I’d be asking them to send a screenshot to prove it had been sent

IlovetoKnitandRead · 02/04/2025 16:59

Instant transfers with Monzo with a satisfying audible ping after.. Sorry OP you may have lost a friend.

ZookeeperSE · 02/04/2025 17:04

Yep, as others said, pretty much instantaneous with Monzo. And yes the very satisfying ping! (I’ve just sent some money).
Also, if money doesn’t arrive within two hours Monzo will investigate why for you. So she’s full of it I’m afraid.

PullTheBricksDown · 02/04/2025 17:06

I can't take screenshots of my banking app so asking for that may not work. She's lying though.

TwistedWonder · 02/04/2025 17:06

They’re lying. I work in financial world and Monzo transfers are within seconds - most banks now use the faster payments method for small transfers as it’s an instant transaction

RogersOrganismicProcess · 02/04/2025 17:07

Love Monzo, very quick and easy to use, and as pp said, the sound effects are very satisfying!

BakelikeBertha · 02/04/2025 17:09

Tell her you want to see proof! However, yes, she's lying, how silly of her, as doubtless after this, you won't be willing to help her out in future.

TwistedWonder · 02/04/2025 17:21

I used to have a friend like this - note used to have.

Always forgetting her purse and ‘can you just lend me a tenner’ and it was a matter ever get a penny back from her. always her banking app not working, her pinpad at home etc etc etc. She even used to say ‘oh ffs it’s only a fiver/tenner’ but it’s the principal not the amount - and she did it to everyone so all those only soon added up.

BobbyBiscuits · 02/04/2025 17:26

There must be proof it's left her account? Tell her to send it over. Then when she won't tell her you need the money by her next pay day or you're going to struggle to trust her again. Then don't talk to her until you have it, if you don't get it, then don't talk to her again...

Teladi · 02/04/2025 17:27

Are you sure it was really her that asked?

Trickabrick · 02/04/2025 17:28

Ask her to send you a screenshot of the payment being requested from her account to your account, so you can take it up with your bank. She’s full of BS but it might prompt her to actually transfer it if you push for proof.

Rubbishornot · 02/04/2025 17:29

Teladi · 02/04/2025 17:27

Are you sure it was really her that asked?

Yes I’m sure. Used my name, then I asked for proof and she sent info only she could know and photos of us together. It was the first thing I thought but she used my name straight away and talked about others we know too.

The only time I have had a Monzo issue, is I sent a payment link via whatsapp (rather than doing a bank transfer) and the other person didn't click on it.

Monzo is by far my favourite bank....
In fact... here's my referral link & we both get a fiver 😉

Sorry your friend is being an arse. I hate it when people don't pay money back.

🎉 You’re invited to join Monzo, and get £5!

Ask her to meet with you and you can sort it out together - with her phone
