Severe ovulation pain

Panickyperson1 · 01/04/2025 18:59

Let's talk ovulation pain... does any other person get this. My ovulation test came back positive saturday night and today I have the most horrendous pains. I have had it over and over again. After lots of test i have adenomyosis and mittleschmerz. But the doctors don't really know what to do and there is no treatment. I have it for about 3 or 4 days every few months and I am so miserable. It hurts when I wee when I walk it's just awful. But I don't know many people that get this? Any one????

I get a stich-like pain from time to time during ovulation probably on and off for about 2 days. Not every month. I am healthy as far as I know..

114E · 01/04/2025 19:14

Yes I get severe pain when ovulating. I have endometriosis and it is so painful. I have pain during my periods too but not as painful as ovulation. The pain spreads to my legs and back and finding it difficult with walking and going to the toilet like you said. I've got doctors soon to discuss ongoing plans for endo as I've had 2 surgeries but endo grows back.

SharpLily · 01/04/2025 19:18

Yes, I get this. It's incredibly uncomfortable for a few days every month. Worse than period pains and seems impossible to do anything about it.

Panickyperson1 · 01/04/2025 19:21

I have pain in my legs too. I have have so many scans and it's literally a miniscule egg that it causing this horrendous does pain !

It's so debilitating. Do you just use heat and cocodamol?

I get this! It’s agony. Strangely I’ve only had it since having my two DDs (now 6 and 4). I don’t think l have endo or any gynaecological problems that I know of, so who knows why I get it. I have to take cocodamol or naproxen, as nothing else works!

CarpetSlipper · 01/04/2025 19:59

I get severe ovulation pain, it really hurts to walk or stand up straight. I’ve always had it. Not sure how normal it is.

Thomasthe · 01/04/2025 20:00

Unfortunately I can empathise. Feel so blown up and uncomfortable it hurts to sit down/bend. Sore lower back, upper thighs. Going to the toilet can be uncomfortable

JoyousEagle · 01/04/2025 20:01

I’ve had this since my periods came back after DD2. Really horrible pain in my abdomen and legs for a few days, with a severe few hours of one sided pain. I’m often bent over with it.

CandyflossKid · 01/04/2025 20:02

Yes, used to get ovulation pain every month - it was awful (never suffered period pain though).

Have been on the mini pill for quite a few years so don't suffer with it any more thankfully.

I agree. Yes but still in pain 😞

BlondeMummyto1 · 01/04/2025 20:24

I don’t feel anything, maybe a very minor stitch like pain for fleeting moments when I’m in bed.

I would query cysts.

It's not a cyst on ovary? When I had first surgery there were a few cysts on ovaries there too with endo. Not sure whether they would pick that up on scan?

WhatWasPromised · 01/04/2025 20:25

This was me too, since having DC it’s worse.

I didn’t want to but went on the pill to basically stop me ovulating and it’s been amazing. I don’t get many (if any) bad side effects but the mid month pain and horrendous periods have stopped.

I also got really awful low moods around ovulation, so basically I felt horrific for close to half the month!

Bluebell865 · 01/04/2025 20:30

I had the leg and ovulation pain too. It's severe endometriosis in my case. what sort of scans did you have? Unless you have cysts, endo is rarely seen on ultrasound but you need an MRI and even that can miss it. Gold standard to diagnose is a laparoscopy

Rosieposy89 · 01/04/2025 20:39

I have had this ever since coming off cerazette in 2018. Some months it can be so bad I struggle to sit up straight. Sex can also be painful. I had an internal scan - came back clear. I strongly suspect I have endometriosis as we have fertility issues and my ovarian reserve is low for my age

Pomegranatemum · 01/04/2025 20:44

I had it too (not currently as I’m BFing and cycles haven’t returned). Not as painful as OP and others have described so I feel fortunate in that regard. I’d feel more and more bloated for a few days, sometimes feeling like I was being pumped up like a balloon, then have bad pain for an hour or less, then it’d be gone. The silver lining for me was it helped when I was TTC!

Sparrow7 · 01/04/2025 20:47

I get really bad pain, it feels like I'm being stabbed. But it only lasts about 5 seconds so I've never investigated further.

nuttyslackster · 01/04/2025 20:50

Since having a baby I have really suffered with ovulation pain. Pre-baby I would have no clue I was ovulating. It lasts for a few days mid cycle. I am incredibly bloated and tender in that area often accompanied by sharp pain on the side that I am ovulating from. It’s really annoying but apparently the pill is the only fix and I am not keen to go on that in my 40s. Glad to hear I am not alone as for me ovulation is much more painful than my period.

I'm so jealous. I'm on the mini pill but still ovulate and have periods. I'm a mystery!

I've had ultrasounds which showed adenomyosis. Everytime I go i tell them im ovulating and they can always see a follicle. The nurse are amazed that I know!!!

Yes noone seems to care! The doctors are like have some codeine and get on with it!

OP posts:
nuttyslackster · 01/04/2025 21:41

I would agree that doctors I have seen (mainly male) are pretty blasé about it. I used to be paranoid it was ovarian cancer but the symptoms occur like clockwork around ovulation and then disappear, plus tests have come back ok. I have no endometriosis as far as I am aware.

lilyflower1803 · 01/04/2025 21:51

I get sciatica on the side I am ovulating from and sided back pain. It can be quite noticeable.
