Why, dear MN poster, do you comment on threads without reading them? Now, I appreciate that some are simply too long or busy for any of us to find the time to read every single word, but surely you could at least use the handy facility that allows you to isolate all the posts by the OP, so that you have somewhat of a handle on their actual situation, rather than the one you’ve made up in your head?

Then we could all avoid the torture that is:
OP I have two children….
MNP As you don’t have children you can’t possibly….

OP My husband died last year….
MNP Why don’t you tell your husband to get off his backside….

OP I can’t work due to severe disabilities….
MNP It’s about time you went back to work…

Honestly, I despair!

Some people do this @ToutesetBonne because their primary intention is to have a kick at the OP and make them feel small.

That's it. So they read the headline and a couple of lines, smirk to themselves, then pen the most withering response they can muster within the Talk Guidelines.

This is a hobby for some people. It's really depressing when you think about it.

yes I do (comment on threads without reading them..)

😮

Please tell me why…..

I think the ones I got were £4 but you might find some cheaper in a city.

Bruisername · 31/03/2025 13:24

Oh drives me mad

Or a thread with 400 posts with OP commenting a few times and it’s been over a few days and then people jump in having read OP saying something akin to cancel the cheque

ShortyShorts · 31/03/2025 13:24

Why, dear MN poster, did you not use the search function so you see this thread has been done time and time again?

Wink

Good question, @ShortyShorts ! Tbh I never find the search function here terribly helpful....

Because it's not really asking why posters do it, it's a plea for people not to do it, which to my mind bears repeating.

Won't make a scrap of difference, of course. Let's try it....

To all Mumsnetters, please stop replying to threads when you haven't read any of the OPs posts. It's really annoying!

Now we wait....

Oh I do so agree with you. And why are there so many nasty people on line…surely they can’t be so vicious in real life.

No, they're not. They're all cowardy custards with low self-esteem.

Sunshineandoranges · 31/03/2025 14:15

And a plea to think would I say this to that person’s face. If they answer is no..then don’t say it online.

offmynut · 31/03/2025 14:25

I sometimes have to go to the comments to find out what the op is on about.
Or i read it then add a comment then the op will add a huge dip feed that changes what i think.

Can you give us some logic around why you do this?

stayathomer · 31/03/2025 14:29

Because the op should have the main information in it! And some of us read at lunchtime in work or when the kids are out playing and feel we want to help somehow- I know I didn’t want to read and run bugs some people but it’s true- if you skip the thread and it’s all negative you might want to let the op know things aren’t necessarily falling apart and she doesn’t need to ltb!!!

Bruisername · 31/03/2025 14:33

But how are you helping if you haven’t bothered to read all the OPs posts at a minimum? Especially on long threads

It's not a court deposition is it though, @stayathomer ?

And then when an OP does correctly post with all the "main information" in it, you get the usual response from some types on here:

"I don't have time to read an essay"..

So people can't win...
