Anyone medical around? Coughing blood

I’ve been struggling with my sleep. I had two glasses of wine and went to bed Saturday evening. Upon waking this morning I felt very confused, and like a choking feeling. I got up and washed wrenching violently to the point I wet myself. And blood came up in clumps. I’ve laid down all day and my throat is killing me. But what’s bothering me is it feels like a goldfish is in my throat but I can’t swallow it. Never had anything like this

I agree. Go to ED now. Do you usually drink a fair bit? That might be a cause and if so it can suddenly get much, much worse so best to go now.

No I rarely drink. I didn’t even finish a small second glass.

This is probably one of the most ridiculous threads I’ve read. Go to the hospital. Or call 111. Do something, FFS! Doesn’t matter if you’ve not called 111 before and you ‘don’t know what to do’ -they’ll talk you through it. This is infuriating.

I disagree with this - go to a&e - better to be seen, 111 will send you anyway and you'll waste time waiting.

Thank you. That’s why I never have rang 111. Admittedly though was brought up by parents where you only go if your arm is hanging off.

thanks for all the replies. I’m going to go. Does anyone want an update as to what they find?

Ok can I have a little bit more kindness please or non comment. I’m in therapy for my people pleasing a lack of voicing up when there’s a problem. This stretches to every area of my life. So yes today I have had a hard day. But haven’t wanted to bothered anyone

OP hope you make it there ok and let us know how you get on. Otherwise than this have you been unwell?

jamimmi · 30/03/2025 22:46

Bright red blood more than a couple.of teaspoons get to a&e . I say that as a Respiratory specialist. May not be anything serious but if you were my patient I'd want to know. Chest x ray needed and check for lung blood clots both appropriate based on what's on here. Glad to hear your going, we often need to remind people. This is the kind of thing we do want to come to a&e.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to sound as harsh as I did.

It’s just worrying to read something where someone is clearly very unwell and in need of medical help fairly quickly but delaying.

I wish you well and hope you get it sorted.

Don’t forget to check into a&e on Facebook so everyone knows you’re there.

seriously op, does anyone want an update? This is your health, not a get ready with me. Updates should not be your priority.

PickAChew · 30/03/2025 22:52

This potentially is an emergency whatever some people might say. Worst that happens is you'll have a fair wait if it's not deemed immediately life threatening upon triage and they're busy. Take some water, a book and a phone charger.

HeySnoodie · 30/03/2025 23:05

Great to hear you’re getting checked out. Best be safe with that sort of thing

SaveMeFromMyBoobs · 30/03/2025 23:13

I have a medical degree, law degree and do all that alongside my astronaut career (greetings from international space station).

Anyone can claim anything on here. Consult genuine medical advice. If it was your daughter or mother or sister having this, would you still be saying "Oh wait it out don't go to A&E" or would you be telling them to get their arse down there now?

IBelieveinSomething · 30/03/2025 23:31

I read something recently about oesophageal cancer. Or at least oesophageal obstruction. If I was you i would go to a & e.

Scutterbug · 30/03/2025 23:34

I’m glad you are going, keep us updated x

blueberrypie29 · 30/03/2025 23:39

Sounds like it could be a Mallory-Weiss tear, a superficial tear in the oesophagus caused by retching. You should seek medical attention to get it checked out and see if any definitive treatment needed, and as others have said bringing up blood is never normal. Hope you feel better soon

It was a Mallory Weiss tear and I have tonsillitis. Just got home with penicillin and further dates for a camera. Feel dreadful
