To cut a long story short.
My husband of 40 years has had a brief WhatsApp conversation with a women he hasn’t spoken to in nearly a year.
nothing happened with them but I felt they were to friendly so he stop speaking and not playing with her at the club they both attend.
He told me she has contacted him and I asked to read the messsges and he said he had deleted them.
i am absolutely livid and am know convinced he didn’t want me to read the messages because they would have given a very different story.
Im I being unreasonable.

Forget her and ask yourself what has led to you not trusting your husband?

If he’s given you no reason not to trust him in 40 years, then YABU.

If this is because he’s got bad form YANBU…and should think about whether you want to be with someone you can’t trust.

You sound nuts. He's done nothing wrong

offmynut · 29/03/2025 22:29

Whats the man done wrong.

Bex5490 · 29/03/2025 22:29

Then it sounds like he deserves you to trust him.

If he hasn’t cheated with this woman and stopped speaking to her because the friendship made you uncomfortable, he’s done nothing wrong.

Maybe he deleted the msg because he thought you might overreact if you knew she’d messaged which you kind of have.

BubblegumGiraffe · 29/03/2025 22:39

It’s dodgy deleting the messages to be fair - if you tell your other half you received messages from someone who has previously caused issues of course they will want to read them. Makes it look like he has something to hide.

CalmTheFuckDownMargaret · 29/03/2025 22:50

I delete lots of conversations - that alone doesn’t mean anything.

SCWS · 29/03/2025 22:56

You can retrieve deleted WhatsApp messages - just as a side point, provided they were saved during the phone’s last back up. If they were sent and deleted before the phone last backed up they won’t be saved.

You just need to delete and then reinstall WhatsApp - making sure you follow the prompts to retrieve data/messages.

His first thought may have been that he would not tell you and just delete them? I’d still be furious though. But if you go by his past, and he made changes when you asked him to, unless there’s more to tell? It sounds like he hasn’t done anything.
