I’ve not always seen eye to eye with partners mum, she can be quite a bully and it’s her way or we all suffer kind of thing, I spent years trying to be “ good enough “ for her and the way I was treated was appalling I could go into it but I’d be here all day ! Anyhow am I being unreasonable to be annoyed that my partner put my kids names in her “ mum “ card ? She also got a separate grandma card from the kids, so there was no need to put my kids name in the mum card ! She’s not their mum, she’s had her kids it’s made me feel really annoyed tbh !

It's just odd. I'd find it really weird if DH put their names in his mum's card. And annoying because it was odd.

But then I'd feel the same about them getting a separate Granny card too. That's just as odd to me.

FeelingLikeAFaultyNPC · 29/03/2025 16:04

It’s a card. It will be in the recycling in a week.
Your DP has just added family names. I think your dislike of her is why you have found it disproportionately annoying, but yes, YAB a little bit U.

Topseyt123 · 29/03/2025 16:04

I would see this as a non-issue.

Leave it to your partner.

I don't think it is odd either. I put my children's names (and even my DH's name too) into the card for my mother. After my own, of course.

How could anyone get so worked up, about something so trivial ?

There are lots of things in life to get annoyed about, this is not one of them.

Maybe it’s your extreme reactions that are the problem ?

RosesAndHellebores · 29/03/2025 16:05

If your children are your partners, surely they are "our" children, not "my" children?

I'm confused and if I weren't confused, it seems rather a non issue.

The mothers' day cards to my mother and to MIL include all our names. My mothers' day card from DS and DIL included both their names.

MrsCastle · 29/03/2025 16:07

Are you annoyed because you were excluded?

what if he had put all your names would it be ok?

doesit feel like he’s taking sides?

stayathomer · 29/03/2025 16:08

unless They’re not his biological children yabu, people just throw the kids in to make it all look fuller and more exciting

DappledThings · 29/03/2025 16:10

It has never crossed my mind to put anyone's name in a card I'm sending to my mum, expressly because she is my mum, other than my own. It's not like a birthday card that would be from all of us.

Literally the point of it is her relationship to me. Not to her son-in-law or her grandchildren. Never knew anyone did this.

TheThreeMiracles · 29/03/2025 16:12

No he put my name in as well which also annoys me, this woman has put me through hell and back, split me and partner up at one point so not as if it’s like a loving friendship it’s almost like shell tolerate me so she can see her grandchildren, and I’ve tried to have a better relationship with her despite how I was treated but it’s quite clear I’m not good enough for partner or his family ! My DD puts her children's name in my card.
And they usually write in the card too.

CautiousLurker01 · 29/03/2025 16:33

I do my MiLs lowers and card every year. Come from DH, me, the kids and even the dogs! We’re celebrated DH’s mum as she’s important to us in her role as his mum. I don’t think it’s something you need to overthink.

It's not about the card really is it? Maybe dh is just trying to keep the peace a bit. However If she's as bad as she sounds, then I get why you're upset. Re the card issue, I would never put my dh"s name in my card to my mum or vice versa. Ds always get mum a card for mother's Day, separate to mine.
