Me and DP had DN overnight yesterday. Took her swimming, did all that fun stuff. We are currently watching the BBC Merlin from 2008, just kind of have it on in the background because we both loved it when it came out. It’s rated PG, and normally my SIL is fine with that, she lets her kids watch Harry Potter and all that, so we assume it was fine. Didn’t want to call her or text her because it’s date night. DN was sort of half watching it, asked me some questions and seemed interested in the premise. She’s getting very into reading, so I said I will look for some books on the legend of Merlin for her birthday, and she should watch the show with her dad as he used to love it.
Today we got a pretty angry call from my SIL. She said it’s inappropriate for an 8 year old. I said I was sorry, and that I assumed because it was PG it would be fine, but next time I will call and check. I said what about the books, she said books are fine but do not show her the show again or mention it. I like my SIL, she’s been in my life since I was about 3 she is family. I don’t want to question her, I’m not going to argue with her about it because it’s her child her choice. But I just want to know - do you think 8 is too young for Merlin? There’s some “scary” bits, but nothing worse than Dr Who or Harry Potter. As far as I remember there’s no shagging in it?
You are being unreasonable- 8 is too young.
You are not being unreasonable- 8 is fine for Merlin.
