Please send solidarity if you also have a ridiculous dog who eats litter

I've had the 24 hours from hell.
Dog woke up panting which is not normal for her and husband had the car so I had to get a train to get the dog to the vet but chemo brain struck and I got off too early so had to wait for a bus for 45 mins
. Vet
said potentially heart failure and the test would be ~5k and we couldn't use insurance 1st. So he gave her an injection to take her pain away, then we got home and she puked everywhere. My mum is a Vicar in a rural community and the vets are fantastic as they're mostly farm vets so l booked an appointment to see them. Except DH had the car so my poor mum had to drive from Mold to the Peak District and back again for my dog to see a vet They thought pancreatitis as her heart was fine (cheers Steve took bloods and said bring her back if she's sick again but she had a raging temp and had some injected abx and anti emetics, I managed to get her to eat a tiny amount last night and she had a 1/4 paracetamol but this morning she was panting again..
so we went back and the vet thought 100% pancreatitis and admitted her for fluids, more antibiotics as her temp had gone up again and iv paracetamol, then she decided to xray just off the cuff and as they were x raying her the lab rang and said bloods -ve for pancreatitis and they saw something really weird in her stomach. I never want to experience the last 24 hours again!!

So she's staying in until tomorrow night because she has stitches in her actual stomach, the bill is way more than we expected. But it's worth it. £3000 for a plastic takeaway container of madras to be removed from my dogs stomach.

here is a photo of my stupid dog. She’s so lucky.

Yup. Also have small brown dog, not border terrier, low to the ground who scarfs anything. Has cost a lot in vets fees over the years. Glad yours is OK. It's worth it 🐕

AllrightNowBaby · 28/03/2025 18:10

Bless her! She looks so naughty 😂
I’m pleased the vet found the problem and she’s ok now….
What a day you had with her…

SpringIsSpringing25 · 28/03/2025 18:14

She is worth it, she's gorgeous!!

But OMG that's a lot of money!!

I'm glad you don't need to worry about any other conditions, though😍

How on earth did she managed to eat a plastic container full of madras curry and not leave a right bloody mess everywhere???

sellotapechicken · 28/03/2025 18:15

Honestly I spent all day yesterday crying and questioning my own gut feeling that something wasn’t right. I’m so glad I didn’t leave it 24 hours !

I have a dog that will eat anything. He took some ibuprofen from my handbag when I was in work, we werent sure how many he ate but it was 2 nights in the vet and nearly £2k, luckily he survived. Other episodes include some nytol, he got into the plastic container, netting that was around a beef joint that was in the food waste box and constant thieving out of any cupboard, fridge, pocket etc that he can get into. I love him so much but he is a very greedy old dog.

WiddlinDiddlin · 28/03/2025 18:20

Ah... a Twatdog. I have had several (and have several). Whilst on steroids for SRMA, the youngest Twatdog ate a tub of bloody cocoa powder whilst we were out... vets overnight, several seizures, nearly bloody died - vet fortunately made him sick despite us thinking it was more than six hours ago that he'd eaten it and he heaved up the lot which is probably what saved his life.

Previous set of dogs - one ate a corn cob someone lobbed into our garden (public foot path behind, main route from a takeaway that does corn on the cob, to the rest of a housing estate so we get a lot of trash that way!)... I made him throw it up... immediately our other lurcher grabbed the puked up cob and ate it... I made HIM throw it up... original lurcher tried again and I got a skinned knee in a rugby style dive trying to stop him (succeeded, totally worth it, my own stupid fault for not shutting him away!).

I swear i will swap them for stuffed toys one day.

ChristmaslightsuptilJanuary · 28/03/2025 18:21

Solidarity. My border nearly died following eating something he shouldn't (still no idea what) at the age of one. It was a terrifying few days and resulted in a 2.5k vet bill

There was 2 of the sods eating it. I expect big stupid dog tipped the bin over and ate most of the left overs and she’s seen her opportunity and stolen it off him when he’s basically eaten most of it, and she’s decided to chew it up and then caused the most expensive takeaway we’ve ever had.

here is the other stupid dog who has previously eaten 27p in change, a child’s sock and a Lego action man in a walk I paid for with a dog walker who took his muzzle off ‘because he was friendly’ I literally could have cried when she said it and she had to pay for his vet treatment

I feel you on the 'dreadful dog' thing. Mine is a Twatterdale and she's the opposite of yours - she won't eat anything she doesn't already recognise as food. Try getting worming tablets into a dog that won't even eat CHEESE or tuna because, apparently 'it's not dog food.'

At least smaller dogs are cheaper at the vets...

hattie43 · 28/03/2025 18:26

Oh she’s beautiful. People who drop litter have no idea and should be hung drawn and quartered .

FOJN · 28/03/2025 18:27

I'd be weeping with fury and relief. Glad she's OK. I suspected it will take you longer to recover. Have a big glass of wine tonight.

Treesarenotforeating · 28/03/2025 18:28

Bloody hell 😳
I would keep her in a muzzle 😉

sellotapechicken · 28/03/2025 18:38

I will be muzzling her!

Terrier. Say no more.
I had a jack Russell who ate blood pressure tablets. Rang the vet who said make her sick. Bowl of salty water and half a jar of mustard covered gravy bones later, and a rather pleased looking dog, vet said if she could manage all that without being sick, not to worry about the tablets.
Other jack Russell choked on a chicken nugget he'd stolen and I had to do chest thrusts on him.
Dachsund puppy, 4 months old ate the entire arm off a stuffed santa. It was massive. We worried it would cause a blockage or serious damage. Santa's arm appeared next morning looking exactly as it went in 12 hours later.
Bloody dogs.

Randomsabreur · 28/03/2025 18:50

I have a Labrador. He once ate a chicken kebab, complete with skewer. Had odd (bloody) diarrhoea 2 days later and some other odd symptoms with moving weird and stretching. Took a CT scan and abdominal ultrasound to identify the culprit, never stopped eating.

Same dog licked a toadstool. Previous Labrador used to sneak off and steal duck food...

Didn't realise other breeds were as ridiculous!

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 28/03/2025 18:53

She is beautiful.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 28/03/2025 19:01

Our Foxie, on one of her first evening walks had to have a boiled sweet extracted from her mouth. Apart from that she’s ok.
Several dogs round our way (lovely rural town) have had to be rushed to the vets after eating some little scrote’s marijuana stash. One hidden in an apple.

We nearly lost our German Shepherd through her greed… pounced on and ate a vile sweating lump of ham left out from a picnic on a very hot day…
She was to and fro the bloody vets with stuff firing out from both ends… oh! my new carpets… 😥😥😥
She lived to just over 12, had the life of Riley but had a really sensitive stomach after the Ham episode aged 1. Of course, she could only have the most expensive food on the bloody planet! 😒
Miss her dearly, she was a Queen 💔

Our dog might kill me, but in quite another way (do you think they have designs on killing us? Have they thought about opposable thumbs and can openers?)

I've got quite a lot of hearing loss (thought I do wear hearing aids). My adult child works from home in the office that we used to call the small bedroom. Their partner is very quite, when they are in.

So there we are, all being quiet, silence prevails. Until, a mouse farts three streets away (or something else no human ear can ascertain) and loved Jack Russel goes bananas.

I swear I'll have a heart attack from the shock their barking brings.

hopeishere · 28/03/2025 19:10

I had to wrestle a discarded chicken bone from my dogs mouth the other day. Disgusting! I was so cross at the period who dropped it.

MelainesLaugh · 28/03/2025 19:12

Mine ate a roll of Duct Tape once 🙄
