Family car/ van

I’d really like peoples views on this….

We have a family car me and my husband drive. He also has a van he is only insured on. We’ve got to the point where the kids need to go to different clubs and parties in a weekend. He had put his foot down and insisting he takes the car and I get taxis (or over an hour walk) because he is going further. We’ve now had several disagreements as I think he should take his van - and me the car.

am I being unreasonable?

Of course you aren't.

How can he think otherwise.

Of course, you could take the car, and then he could choose whether to take the van or walk / use public transport / a taxi.

I wonder if he'd think using the van was so bad then ?

Eenameenadeeka · 28/03/2025 02:39

Why does he not want to take the van?

Sirzy · 28/03/2025 02:48

Does the van have suitable car seats for the children?

WhatWasPromised · 28/03/2025 06:15

What’s his rationale for this? Because on the face of it he’s being very unreasonable.

Wouldn’t it be easier to just get insured on his van so you’ve both always got the option?

I don't understand why he thinks thats a good idea. He'd rather spend all that money on unnecessary taxis when you have 2 vehicles. I'd sit on my car keys and make him use his own van. Fool.

Yes, he has a car seat. We take it in turns to do nursery drop off x

I know a couple of people with company vans which are not available to them for personal use because of the tax system. Could this be the issue?
