YES! It's bloody brilliant!

Smallmercies · 27/03/2025 11:11

I hated it. Exploitative, self-indulgent rubbish.

PickledElectricity · 27/03/2025 11:11

Yes I really enjoyed it. Tried to pace myself to one episode per night!

AnneLovesGilbert · 27/03/2025 11:12

It’s a staggering watch. Complicated, painful and occasionally pretty gross. Go for it.

TonTonMacoute · 27/03/2025 11:14

Yes. We tuned in in spite of all the hype. It's extraordinary tv with lots of food for thought about how bloody complex human interactions can be.

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 27/03/2025 11:15

It’s a tough watch in part and it’s been somewhat undermined by the subsequent revelations and court case. That said the performance by Jessica Gunning is absolutely exceptional and it’s worth watching for her alone.

It’s just that it starts by saying it’s a true story but there are elements that (I think) have been made up for the programme. But it wouldn’t put me off watching - just don’t take all of it literally

Coffeeishot · 27/03/2025 11:24

I didn't like it, was too grimy for me! The after hype was just unnecessary the real woman clearly has issues and I hated the whole backlash she got.

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 27/03/2025 11:30

I thought it was amazing - watched it about 3 times, which one of my friends found hilarious as she was shocked by watching it once. It is gritty, weird and has some uncomfortable scenes, sexual assault, drugs and some reeeaallly uncomfortably terrible stand-up ‘comedy’! But it was absolutely gripping and I found all the characters compelling, especially the lead actor who wrote it allegedly based on his own real life experiences. To play those scenes having lived through them is just remarkable to me. 100% recommend.

WongKarCry · 27/03/2025 11:35

I'm someone who loves dark and disturbing or weird TV shows, but I had to turn this off after 3 episodes because it just felt a bit... I don't know... exploitative or something.

I also felt like the guy being stalked was just as much of a weirdo as the stalker, and it just didn't sit right somehow. But that could just be me!

That was part of its point

I know but I felt like he tried to minimise his role in it, whereas the woman was just demonised plain and simple, but I could be wrong, I gave up on it so I might not have the full picture.

MaloryJones · 27/03/2025 11:51

Go for it OP

I watched it and was very watchable imo

FrothyCothy · 27/03/2025 11:53

Yes with the exception of (I think) episode 5 which was a very grim watch and in hindsight I wish I’d skipped altogether.

I think I got half way through ep 2 I just didn't feel right watching it, It felt "icky".

Thisshirtisonfire · 27/03/2025 11:54

I thought it was really good. Very tense. Jessica Gunning was absolutely amazing.

I don't think he did. You should watch the whole thing. He certainly doesn't portray himself as an innocent victim nor does he portray her without compassion. The real villain is that rapist guy!!
I thought it was really nuanced. But it's obviously not acceptable behaviour on her part whatever he did. They both clearly had a lot of issues though.

Agree. I really don’t get the love it was absolutely dreadful

Oh, no none of it was acceptable. I'm not trying to defend her, I just thought it was a bit one-sided, but I suppose it is his story, so why shouldn't it be?

I may go back and watch the rest.

GuestSpeakers · 27/03/2025 12:01

I didn’t like it but for some reason watched the whole thing waiting to understand the hype.

Memorable · 27/03/2025 12:14

The stalked guy in it was such a wet blanket, I couldn’t carry on watching it after a couple of episodes because he he was so irritating.

Maitri108 · 27/03/2025 12:16

Thought Adolescence was ok, I thought Baby Reindeer was brilliant. Definitely worth a watch.
