To take two more dulcolax?

I suffer with chronic constipation and currently having a bad bout. My last BM was Saturday (which was achieved via dulcolax). Since then I have had prune juice daily, and lactolose for the past two days. Nothing is working, I’m not even getting the urge. So this morning I took two dulcolax as I know they always work (often violently!) - I took them at 9am. It’s now almost 10pm and still nothing!!

im tempted to take two more before I go to bed would this would essentially mean I’ve had four in one day …

AIBU to take two more? Then if that doesn’t work, contact the Gp?

Its only been 4 days. I personally wouldn't. I'd keep drinking plenty of fluids and move lots, walking loads will help.

I'd give it another couple of days

I’m just worried as dulcolax has never not worked before 😞

I would, that dose is similar to what is prescribed after four days. If you haven't gone by morning, I'd try to get a doctors appointment, or go to a walk in. Do you have diverticulitis or another inflammatory condition?

It's really strange but I find Dulcolax work better when taken at night. I also suffer, have done all my life. I'd wait until tomorrow night and then take two more.

Just to add, I've been trying dulcoease. They soften your stools and are more gentle. Maybe give those a try in future.

Have you tried glycerin suppositories?

I have chronic constipation too and find if they’re not giving you the urge you need movicol instead. 4 sachets day 1, add in another 2-4 day too etc.

drink litres of fluid and move more.

once you’ve gone you need to take a maintenance dose of movicol for months, sometimes always. Your body has to shrink back and unlearn bad habits.

Good luck

I find dulcolax doesn’t work very well if taken in the morning. Maybe try one more overnight. I suffer chronically too and now am prescribed Laxido to take regularly. It has changed my life!

Another vote for Dulcoease!
But I'm concerned as to why you haven't seen your GP about what is causing this quite severe constipation.
Unless of course you already have, if so, apologies.

Well we have success this morning. I didn’t take anymore dulcolax but I did have another dose of lactose before bed.
one large BM this morning (tmi sorry!) but now I have awful stomach ache and a sore arse.

the joys of IBS 🤦‍♀️ I’m starting to wonder if I’m gluten intolerant as a while ago I cut out bread/pasta etc and my bowels were so much better
