Do you believe bad things happen in threes?

Honestly, after this week I'm convinced the old wives tale is true. I've had three majorly bad things happen to me work wise this week. 3 big issues that have come out of no where all directly linked to me. Haven't had this happen once in my 5 years here. I always find when something bad happens, it ALWAYS happens in three! I'm hoping this will be the end of the awful week I've had.

Yes,I definitely believe this! It's happened quite a few times to me. Only a few weeks ago I had 1) Key fob for security door stopped working for no reason. 2) Had an email for a parcel I had been expecting and it had gone to the wrong address. 3) Had the dreaded migration letter from ESA to UC. This all happened in the space of 8 hours.

Absolutely, particularly when it comes to people dying!

exhaustedandwholly · 26/03/2025 17:06

WHY does this happen! 🤣

No. I'm not superstitious at all.

Is there a time frame these things must happen in for them to be considered a group of 3 and related to each other?

I personally have found it usually happens within a couple of weeks or so of each other. This has happened all in the space of a week for me.

I'm sorry you've had such a shitty week. I hope it gets resolved for you as best as possible.

I don't personally believe things happen as part of a set because that would imply some mystic force making things happen, which I don't believe in.

The thing about random shit happening is that random can happen close together as well as far apart.

WhatNoRaisins · 26/03/2025 17:14

I don't normally believe these things but I've seen this one happen too many times.

CulturalNomad · 26/03/2025 17:18

No, I don't think there's anything to it. I do think people try really hard to make that connection though: " My gran and great aunt died a week apart and then my neighbor down the street!".

TimeForTeaAndToast · 26/03/2025 18:02

No.

jeaux90 · 26/03/2025 18:04

No I don’t believe it I just think these things are a coincidence. I’m really sorry you are having a shit time though!

SwanOfThoseThings · 26/03/2025 18:10

Celebrities die in threes.

neverbeenskiing · 26/03/2025 18:12

No.

Redheadedstepchild · 26/03/2025 18:14

"When sorrows come, they come not single spies but in battalions." William Shakespeare.

On the other hand, I've noticed that, "Money attracts money." You can be having a really bad time financially and then the luck turns, somehow. Funny old world.

KrisAkabusi · 26/03/2025 18:20

No. Because you'll stop counting now and whatever minor annoyance happens next will be ignored. Whereas if you were only on bad thing number two you would count it as number 3.
