This is ridiculous. Are we not allowed to condemn terrorists now!

Damon Joshua sacked by Severn Trent Water for causing "significant harm' after calling Hamas 'disgusting terrorists'.

Wow. No longer allowed to call terrorists 'disgusting'

Apparently he used very 'derogatory words' which might cause offence to terrorists or terrorist supporters.

OP posts:
CaptainFuture · 23/03/2025 17:38

You can't hurt the feelings of terrorists and murderers now!! That's so much more harmful than their actions!!

NonsenseNonsense · 23/03/2025 17:39

Apparently complainant said his comment reflected badly on Severn Trents reputation as a 'diverse and inclusive company'. Are they aiming to attract terrorists or supporters? One would assume everybody would condemn those brutal acts! Are we really worried about the feelings of terrorists now.

Crazy isn't it. He lost his job.

The problem seems to be that he put it on the company’s internal Intranet site. The language he used was entirely inappropriate for an internal intranet site. He posted on “behalf” of a number of other employees without getting approval or consent to do so, for a political matter.
This was not the first time he had done this using internal systems, voicing opposition to various DEI initiatives. He had a history of misuse of the internal system, and had been told several times that this was not what the internal systems were to be used for.

This is not an “attack on free speech” is a bell-end employee, who can’t be arsed following the rules of the organisation he was employed by.

Tragically some people will use this to spread Islamophobia lies.

He lost his job for continually breaking the rules set be his employer … not sure he deserves a moment of sympathy

Could you post link to where you found out that? It doesn't say that in article. It says he caused offence saying they were 'disgusting terrorists '..

Thanks

It doesn't say that in article? Where did you get that from?

OP posts:
Thatcat · 23/03/2025 17:43

It’s got nothing to do with his work, and his demonstration in lack of understanding shows he’s not fit for the job. He deserved that outcome.
Bravo to the company.

Liverpool52 · 23/03/2025 17:43

@NonsenseNonsense did you bother reading to the end of the article where it makes clear he wasn't sacked because of one post?

ExtraOnions · 23/03/2025 17:43

From the full article … I assume have read the whole thing, not just some click bait headline ?

NonsenseNonsense · 23/03/2025 17:44

Nothing to do with islamophobia @ExtraOnions any terrorists are disgusting.

Did you read the full article … before telling us how awful it was that you can’t call a Muslim terrorist a Muslim Terrorist without being fired?
or, just happy to peddle it because it made reference to Muslims?

NonsenseNonsense · 23/03/2025 17:48

I never mentioned Muslims, any terrorist is disgusting.

Smallmercies · 23/03/2025 17:53

It was a staff portal in a workplace. Politics have no place there. He clearly breached his employer's policy. He's not being persecuted for his views.

Liverpool52 · 23/03/2025 17:53

@NonsenseNonsense but you're not going to addrress the point that many have made that this individual was not sacked for one post, it was for repeated violations of company policy.

BlumminFreezin · 23/03/2025 17:56

Sounds like an absolute tiresome knob, spouting thinly veiled racist views, who deserved to get fired.

Continual misuse of staff intranet forums will end badly for the employee, who'd have thought it.

NonsenseNonsense · 23/03/2025 17:48

Just as well you didn’t mention Muslim terrorism, I think we are allowed to talk about Hitler, though. I actually think you’re still allowed to sing “Hitler has only got one ball”. Germans don’t seem to mind.

faerietales · 23/03/2025 18:01

Did you even read the article you posted? It's right there in the second paragraph.

"Damon Joshua was dismissed by Severn Trent Water after he described Hamas as “a group of violent and disgusting terrorists” in a post on the company’s staff intranet website on the anniversary of the attack."

craigth162 · 23/03/2025 18:05

He can have his opinion but he can't say he represents his company colleagues and customers. He got what he deserved. And it definitely says it's not an isolated incident so clearly he knew what he was doing and proceeded anyway.

MemorableTrenchcoat · 23/03/2025 18:05

NonsenseNonsense · 23/03/2025 17:48

He doesn’t get to break his employer’s perfectly reasonable rules just because you, or anyone else, thinks terrorists are didgusting.

Yes, he described terrorists as disgusting.
