DD3 taking about her friend from nursery with a name I couldn't work out.

Turns out he's called Lucifer.

Have since googled and turns out there are no names you can't use on the UK!

Apparently in 2020, 15 babies in the UK were called Lucifer, which is more than the name Keith

I also would have been surprised if the child was called Keith.

Thanks for the perspective

Bloody hell. The parents are shit bags in my opinion. I wouldn’t call a dog that let alone my child

Ha! I thought it was interesting

It means morning star, or light bringer.
If people don’t believe in God why would they worry about the name?

I do, and I would, but I understand many wouldn’t. Better than Cain, imo.

Overheard a lady today chatting about a chap called Derek, can’t get many Derek’s under 5.

TeenLifeMum · 22/03/2025 20:50

Meh, it’s a name from a fictional book 🤷🏻‍♀️

ZebraPaws · 22/03/2025 20:52

One of my dc was at school with a Zebedee.
Apparently is an old religious name. I didn’t know that, I just knew it from the Magic Roundabout!

hoarahloux · 22/03/2025 20:53

Better than Gary.

I'm 42 and was also at school with someone called Zebedee

I would bet that the parents chose Lucifer from the TV series with Tom Ellis. Think it's on Netflix or Prime? I believe that the character is literally the devil isn't he? Although played as handsome and charming.

Probably the parents are not that educated and just think it's a character name, not understanding that they are naming him after the literal Devil. The Registrar should have warned them.

(Unless they're practising Satanists...)

DDs met a really sweet little boy at the park today called Cuthbert! It suited him 😄

Murfmeister · 22/03/2025 21:40

I love the name Cuthbert! It's a bit C.S. Lewis and comforting.
Now trying to imagine him in a hoody and tracksuit bottoms with his hands down the front and a Cat A swagger. Nope. Not happening
