Music by a pool - inconsiderate or ok

AIBU

Blaring music on a speaker by a hotel pool when on holiday overseas is an inconsiderate & ignorant thing to do. I want to listen to hotel music not hear it clash with their poor taste.

or am I old & it’s just part of an what people do on an all inclusive bresk

Irrational but just want to throw speaker in water.

( yes small world problem - lucky to be somewhere sunny)

Yeah I’d hate that! I also don’t really like hotel music or any music when I’m sunbathing

It's so selfish - I would throw the perpetrators in the pool along with their speaker.

AtrociousCircumstance · 21/03/2025 15:52

Complain to the hotel managers.

Selfish idiots.

Nic834 · 21/03/2025 15:52

Definitely inconsiderate, especially when there are other options like headphones!

minipie · 21/03/2025 15:55

I would speak to hotel staff who can suggest headphones

BigDahliaFan · 21/03/2025 15:57

I'd find some hotel staff and ask them to do something about it. Or accidentally kick the speaker into the swimming pool.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 21/03/2025 16:03

Massively selfish, and I can't imagine the hotel would stand for it if they noticed. I'd have found someone to complain to.

MeridianB · 21/03/2025 16:07

Ask the staff to deal with it. They should be proactive about these things anyway.

333FionaG · 21/03/2025 16:28

I was on holiday near Barcelona last year, and had the exact same experience. Fortunately, I wasn't the only hotel guest that found it annoying, and when the group of people went in to have some lunch, their speaker mysteriously disappeared, only to reappear on their last day. I had nothing to do with the disappearance, I am much too cowardly, I just seethed in silence. The worst part of all was the music they were playing - pretty much nonstop Justin Bieber and K-Pop. Aaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!

Cynic17 · 21/03/2025 16:29

Totally inconsiderate. The hotel staff must ask them to turn it off.

ArtTheClownIsNotAMime · 21/03/2025 16:32

I had this once. The people doing it were VERY rough so I talked to the rep and she sorted it.

icecreamscoops · 21/03/2025 16:38

Bring your own speaker and play something completely opposite...death metal, jazz or Wagner
I've never done thus but would love to! We live near a lake and there have been a few times when some nob is playing some really shit music and I'd love to play them at their own game!

ThisFluentBiscuit · 21/03/2025 16:41

Totally inconsiderate. I hate hearing other people's choice of music at a time of their choosing. Why should I listen to what THEY want to listen to, when THEY want to listen to it? Headphones are a thing.

Exactly. Kick it in the pool!

Can you speak to hotel managers about it?

familyconflict · 21/03/2025 16:44

Tried reception but think there was a language barrier. Tried the entertainment rep - not sure she got what I was saying. (& I was trying to talk quietly & she was loud 🙄) Just told her I’m going in as I’ve had enough. Will go to beach or bring earphones to pool tomorrow. I have had to walk away because I could feel the rage & see myself chucking it in the pool.

We been here a few times, a bit of winter sun, lovely clean hotel, nice staff, good food but actually I recall this issue last year. We moved to another area of the pool.

Will find somewhere new next year, & try not to throw the speaker in the pool for the next few days.

Thanks for making me feel I’m not being unreasonable.

We had British families doing that on our all-inclusive to Crete last year. As well as people putting towels on the sun loungers before breakfast and then keeping them there all day if they were by the pool or not. I loved Crete, loved the staff but I have to say it completely put me off doing an all inclusive hotel ever again. It's back to self-catering private accommodation for me thank you very much!
