Unsure if I have a lump or not?

Hi!

just posting for a bit of perspective because I’m not sure if I’m doing the right thing or not!

the other day after a shower I noticed a bit of a lump in the mirror. It’s sort of below my neck and above my chest, right where the edges of lots of bones are so it might just be that and I’m just suddenly aware of it. But I’ve never noticed it before. When I feel it it feels solid, and I can feel a bit of a lump but it’s hard to tell if it’s just the edge of a bone because I can sort of feel it on the other side although it does feel slightly bigger and I can notice it more in the mirror.

I don’t want to be a timewaster and go to the doctor if it turns out it’s just the edge of my collarbone or something and then I look like an idiot haha. But equally I’ve never notified it before and I’m really struggling to feel if it’s even a lump or not

I was just going to keep monitoring it and if it gets bigger or changes then I’ll go get it checked

is that what other people would do too? Or would you just go and get it checked and if it turns out it’s just the normal edge of a bone then at least you’ve had it checked?

I don’t have health anxiety or anything like that but just a bit unsure what to do and don’t want to be a time waster, it definitely feels bigger on this side but maybe that’s just normal for me and it’s just the first time I’ve noticed it

I’ve attached a pic of it below (not the best pic because of the crap lighting but I’ve circled the bit I’m unsure about if it’s a lump or not)

would you monitor it yourself for a bit or just book an appointment and get it checked?

thanks 😀

I would go to the doctor.

get it checked - thyroid area

NewspaperChips · 21/03/2025 13:18

Get it checked. You’re not wasting anyone’s time and it’s much better to know either way sooner rather than later.x

edited to add context:
I’ve had multiple breast lumps before. Always fine and it’s likely to reoccur (benign cysts). I used to worry about wasting their time even though I was 99% sure there was nothing to worry about. The Consultant told me that it’s never a waste of their time if they get to catch things early and/or put our minds at ease.

Hopefully it is nothing for you to worry about, but definitely try to get an answer asap.

Newtrix · 21/03/2025 13:22

I'd definitely get it checked due to the location

Annascaul · 21/03/2025 13:31

Go anyway. If it’s a false alarm, what’s the harm?

KnottyAuty · 21/03/2025 13:34

What are your options?

  1. Go to the Gp and get checked probably in the next 2 weeks. It will either be a false alarm or you may need treatment. But the sooner you go the less treatment you need.
  2. Worry a lot. Possibly for weeks. Then go to step 1.

get it checked - knowing is always better than not knowing and worrying. I hope it’s an all clear xx

Get checked

nadine90 · 21/03/2025 13:36

It’s hard to see from the pic but being on your collar bone you can compare to the other side. The fact you are worried is ample reason to get it checked out. Hopefully it is nothing, I’m sure most lumps and bumps that are checked are nothing. No one will think that you are wasting their time x

Inmydreams88 · 21/03/2025 13:45

From the picture I'd 100% make an appointment. Why risk it?

Karatema · 21/03/2025 13:58

I’ve been staying with my DDiL, I’ve had a dry patch on my back for a while. She took a look for me and told me to go to GP to get it checked (she has medical training). She said even if it’s nothing it will put her mind at rest! So I’m off to see the GP next week.
Don’t put it off. Better for the GP to say it’s nothing than get a year down the line and find it’s a lot worse!

Hi,

I had very similar. More of a sausage shape. Had an ultrasound and it was fatty tissue. However absolutely get this checked. Any lump or bump I'm checking.
