To do something else on Mother’s Day?

dh is very close to his family. They call daily and he sees them regularly. We go for lunch at his mother’s every other weekend to coincide with when he has my step dc. They welcome my dc but are obviously mostly interested in the biological gc and my kids get a bit bored.

My family are distant and not particularly interested in me or my dc. It feels v painful to always have to be the outsider watching DH with his family who fuss over their gc.

Mother’s day - he wants his mum here for lunch. AIBU to do something else? I’m in the thick of parenting my own teens and would like one day where I don’t feel like a spare part in someone else’s family.

Why not let him go to his mum's with his child/children and you do something with your own kids? You could have a nice lunch out and then come home and have a movie afternoon together.
