hi all i’m posting for a friend she is currently in the highest banding band A she is a foster parent for her sister and she had 4 kids and two of them have needs
she is living in a 2 bed so very over crowded and when you foster the foster child needs there own room but social services new the child didn’t have a room before placing the child in my friends care they helped get her on the housing register and she had to send all medical records of her kids ect

anyway there has been few properties posted on the west cheshire homes
she is eligible for a 4 bed it says
there has been four four beds posted and she’s in position 3 out of 30 people
would i be right in saying she may have a chance of being offered one if she’s in position 3 and there is 4 available to rent ?
or does it not work like that she asked me and i have no clue how social housing works
so i thought id post here and see if anyone knows abit more about how they work xx

When you’re caring for a related child it’s called kinship care, rather than foster care. Children in foster care need their own room because they aren’t related to the carer or other children in their care. With kinship care it’s often a case of finding a safe family member, even if it means a crowded house. The child’s social worker should help support an application for more suitable housing though beyond just completing an application form. She should ask the social worker to provide a letter explaining the need for housing to prevent the kinship arrangement from breaking down.

@Jellycatspyjamas she’s definitely fostering her they hit offered the kinder ship care and they said no and the social worker agreed that the child would get more help being a fostered child instead of her sister doing kinder ship
so she is definitely fostering
her social worker has already done all that and she’s in band A she is already on the housing lists waiting to be housed i was just seeing if anyone knew
if there was four four beds available and she is number 3 in the queue would she be offered one considering her circumstances and her being in the highest banding .

Fostering refers more to the legal status of the child eg the child is placed through the legal process rather it being an informal arrangement between the parent, the carer and social work - creating a formal fostering arrangement often brings more financial support than kinship and gives the child looked after status, which in turn opens doors to different supports and services.

In any event the need for the child to have their own room isn’t the same if the child is cared for by a relative than an unrelated foster carer. Where I am being 3rd in a list for 4 houses makes it likely she’ll get an offer but, as a social worker, I’d be liaising with housing to advocate for her and ensure she does in fact take priority. Has your sister told her social worker about her place on the list and asked for help?

@Jellycatspyjamas she’s definitely a foster carer and not gone through kinder ship carer she has just finished her whole fostering process and been to panel ect
she gets paid as a foster carer
i know what kinder ship care is and it’s different to fostering
yes her social worker is helping her i jus said i will post here and see what ppl think regarding housing
but she million percent fostering .

It means on the system there are two people who’ve probably been waiting longer than her so are ranking higher but in terms of need she could be ranked highest on the list it entirely depends on the other peoples circumstances on that list really. 3/4 and 4 properties is a good place to be though - I was ranked 3 and got offered. There were 3 properties to allocate.
