Don't you have onward travel on your breakdown cover?

What does this mean?

No breakdown cover?
No courtesy car from garage?

Can you afford to hire a car?

NotinToTintin · 19/03/2025 17:58

Sympathies - that’s a real pain in the arse. I hope you can build up your savings again soon.

I’m also having a moan: broke my foot while training for the marathon! All my fitness goals out the window not to mention all my social plans and work events over the next few weeks. And now I’m on the sofa consoling myself with chocolate and feeling terrible.

Your post takes me back to the sheer misery of the broken down car, which was a major feature in my early adulthood. You're getting along, living your life, making your plans, when all of a sudden, everything becomes either impossible or much much harder. Then you have to spend money you wanted for something else, just for the privilege of going back to normal.

Yes I had cover to take my car to the garage…no courtesy car no as it’s not something my mechanic provides.
no I can’t afford to hire a car…

@NotinToTintin noooooo that’s definitely worth a good moan! I think you’re fab for even training for the marathon! Well done!

The young bit is only relevant because in those days cars broke down on the regular. At least these days you can go to Wales for the weekend without it being 50/50 if you'll make it over the horse shoe pass without steam bellowing out of the bonnet, then a long wait in a lay by while someone tries to fix the fan belt with a pair of tights. Happy days.

Sympathies as it’s such a pain and a drain on your finances and just a faff.
I hope you can get it fixed.
