So I'm going to a break up been about 5 months. Ex reached out yesterday I was upset and messaged close friend.

She asked if we could chat on phone today and then after listening to me for a bit she said well at least we have XXX to look forward to.

Even though she knows I don't want to do this specific event but agreed to organise for her Bday. AIBU to be pissed off that in my moment of crisis we have to go back to talking about her?

Yabu. She tried to cheer you up.

harriethoyle · 19/03/2025 15:42

It is and YABU

springintoaction321 · 19/03/2025 15:47

5 months??

YABU - your friend is trying to help

ComtesseDeSpair · 19/03/2025 15:47

I suspect after five months, most of what can be said about your ex which might help you through the breakup has been said. “Block his number and keep on being strong, you’ve got this far, keep on looking to the future and better things, you’ve got this” is about all anyone can keep reiterating - and it sounds like that’s more or less what she did in encouraging you to think about stuff to look forward to.

If you’d broken up last weekend you wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect more extensive support, but you either a) got that at the time or b) you didn’t and that’s the issue you need to focus on, not the recent chat.

Eightdayz · 19/03/2025 16:12

Breaking up 5 months ago and you're still in a moment of crisis?

Get a grip.

Not only unreasonable but also very selfish.

thesilliestgoose · 19/03/2025 16:24

You’re taking the piss if you’re still allowing your ex to contact you and drive you into hysteria five months down the line.

she was trying to cheer you up and frankly shes probably bored of you whinging about your past relationship. Give yourself a shake love.

CaptainFuture · 19/03/2025 16:49

How was he able to contact you, if contact from him = 'crisis' I would have thought he'd be blocked on everything?

ForRealCat · 19/03/2025 18:16

Block your ex.

But I agree its pretty shit of your friend to try and gee you up with the idea of organising an event for her. Yes, she could talk about the things you have to look forwards to...but this doesnt sound like one of them!!!

Stafanko · 19/03/2025 18:18

YABU She was trying to cheer you up. I suspect she feels shes said everything she can on the subject after 5 months. I agree, block the ex

maowmaow · 19/03/2025 18:23

Yes it is. Block the ex. Apologize to your friend, and move on

GrilledSamon · 19/03/2025 18:32

Yes your friend was being unreasonable OP
