Hi does anybody know any good home remedies for a repetitive cough? Really bad through night! Wanting something holistic I can give her as doctors keep saying viral EVERY TIME!

Things we have found helped with toddlers ' coughs over the years:

A spoonfool of honey, swallowed slowly

A square of dark chocolate, melted slowly on the tongue

A sip of pineapple juice

And a traditional recipe in the region where we live is to take a black beetroot (not sure if these are readily available in the UK or not because I never looked when I lived there) put a hole through the middle, balance it on top of a glass, fill the hole with honey and let it run through the black beetroot and into the glass, then persuade the toddler to drink it (this is the hardest part).

Also, thyme tea (for a dry cough).

Gosh I hate this. We went through this recently when the useless GP’s kept sending us away with ‘viral’ nonsense. My dd struggled for weeks with a bad cough
, one trip to the private GP and a course of Antibiotics and she was all cleared up.

a few weeks ago I had no choice to see the GP as my usual private doctor was away. Send away again with ‘viral’ and in 3 days when my gp returned she found a bad throat infection! One course again of AB and my dd is ok.

Easier for them to say viral and let the kid suffer unnecessarily. Sorry about the rant.

I found the only thing that worked for us was half an onion placed under the head of the bed. Smells rotten in the morning but worked a trick!
