Can someone advise - terrible stomach trouble

I try not to give tmi, but basically since yesterday evening I have been in excruciating pain/cramps around stomach (pain made me feel sick and faint), which has been slowly moving downwards and accompanied by watery diarrhoea.
Any advice on the internet failed so far, cannot even drink water properly out of fear of being sick.
Been in bed for most of the day, feeling hot/shivery.
The pain is the worst - I'm supposed to care for my 75 yo husband (who has been doing well, albeit a bit clueless), but cannot manage so far.
Could this be caused by spicy food, or a stomach bug?
I really don't know anything about similar stuff, but saw "all the Saints" at one point and thought I was packing it up. Normally cope well with pain.
Any advice how to move on would be welcome.
Thank you. 🤢

Sounds like it is just food poisoning or a bug such as norovirus that's moving through you. Make up some rehydration salts to sip - you really need keep hydrated and that'll make you feel so much better:

8 Teaspoons of Sugar
½ Teaspoon of Salt
1 Litre of Water

If itt goes on or you feel much worse, call the doctor.

Noro

Oh dear sorry but 'all the saints' made me laugh 🤭

you'll feel better soon op I'm sure. Do you have any co codamol? That's good for stomach issues it helps control the diarrhoea and pain as wel

Coconutter24 · 12/03/2025 15:55

Sounds like a bug

I find buscopan really helpful for stomach cramps

I'd ring 111 for some advice. It could be a bug, but it could also be something like pancreatitis so you want an opinion on when to get extra help.

Elise72 · 12/03/2025 15:59

I'd probably phone 111 and take their advice. Is the pain in one spot? It could be an infected bowel, an ulcer, appendicitis etc... hope you feel better soon

AMiddleClassWomanOfACertainAge · 12/03/2025 16:03

I agree with PP to call 111. I had very bad stomach pain last summer, thought was a bad IBS attack. Pain got so bad, far worse than labour pains. A&E diagnosed acute pancreatitis, I got complications too and was in hospital a month. It can be a killer so take some medical advice.

Mynewnameis · 12/03/2025 16:04

Agree ring 111.

Dotjones · 12/03/2025 16:05

Ring 111 in case but it's probably just a virus. They will know the right questions to ask you.

I don't think you should just assume it's a bug of some sorts.

It could be of course. in which case sip on some warm water with either some pink Himalayan salt dissolved or Celtic grey sea salt, as the both have loads of minerals, and you likely need to replace your electrolytes.

Bear in mind that your symptoms also could be your colon (as another pp said), or it could be diverticular... or something else that I can't think of.

For the immediate time, (for the diarrhoea), get some loperamide ... the "instants" are very fast working, and stopping that uncontrollable flow from your anus, will feel like a massive relief.

So, please get checked out before the weekend.

@Nothatgingerpirate how are you getting on?

@Nothatgingerpirate how are you getting on?

Well, still in pain, it sort of moved downwards.
I think it's some kind of a bug. Able to drink water, do little bits around here, but not much.
Husband is as helpful as he can be.
Thank you for asking.
It was definitely an experience to avoid!
