Does anyone understand the Police Pension scheme?

Posting here for traffic. Cannot figure out DH's pension at all, even though I have the calculator. Don't understand the results! Any retired cops able to explain this for us? Gah!

Police pensions can be confusing because many local forces ran their own pension schemes alongside the normal Public Sector employee scheme.

I had a retired police relative who had multiple "police" pensions, and it took a good bit of head-scratching to figure out why.

I understand public sector pensions as I work in that sector. A few things we need to know:
Is it defined contribution or defined benefit
Is it a CARE scheme or final salary?
Is your DH taking his pension early or at scheme pension age?
Is there a modeller available?

Honestly it’s a minefield.
There are people out there who specialise in police pensions… I’d contact them (if you contact a federation rep they will normally be able to recommend someone)

All I know is that part of it is called Legacy and part of it is called Reformed. There is a modeller, we have entered all of his details in, but I don't understand the results! He wants to take it at 55, as he's honestly had enough now (he's 52 just now). I have a photo of the results it throws back at us.

It also depends when he started and how long he has to go
It's incredibly confusing and there should be force experts or there is a police leavers group on Facebook they might be able to recommend a pensions specialist

I've been reading loads and I think I've now figured it out!
