Do you have a fantasy life?

Lighthearted
It has occurred to me that I live a totally different life in my head.
In my fantasy life :
I live in New York in a small but very stylish apartment. I walk to.work at my very creative job probably in theatre. I stop for a coffee and a pastry every morning at a lovely local bakery. This never puts weight on me at all. I've got a big backpack and a trendy NYC tote to get my groceries in. At lunchtime, I meet friends for lunch sitting outside on the steps of the library. I walk home after work past a fairylit restaurant that my friends are in.
What's your fantasy life?
And do you have a fantasy fashion style that goes with it?

Yes i do my fantasy life is living near a beach with no pain im normal and have people that know me well and want me around all the time although i cant be as im to busy runing my small seaside book shop.
My flat is on top of this shop with a huge walk out balcony.
Very bright all white and very minimalist huge green tree plant in a pot.
And have a very handsome man that wants me but not made a move since our drunken night but i`ll act like i cant remember but he gets jealous if im talking to someone else.
Having dinner with mates in the evening.
Only wearing shorts tank tops and flip flops because its so hot and i have a tan im thin and toned.
And drive a mini.

Truth is im fat live in leggings and jumpers no where near the beach always in some sort of pain and far from normal.
My home looks like a cave and i need to de-clutter.
And no chance of getting a handsome man as i have become invisible.
Dont own a car as i cant drive.

I think i need to get out more lol.

I do live near a beach but it's a bit manky.

No toned, tanned bod either but generally I pretty much have my fantasy life, bar some traffic noise and the usual life challenges of everyone getting older and the house needing work.

Not a lot I want to change, mostly want to be left alone.

75% of the time I live in my fantasy land and it's starting to become a problem in my actual life!

Fantasy me has a 5 bedroom house (paid for of course) with a private income to cover all my life expenses. I also have a part time job doing something meaningful and important (not sure what that is yet).

I wear a lot of beautiful clothes on my impeccably muscular, yet sexy, frame and my hair and makeup is done everyday.

If I had £500k, I could probably live my fantasy life. It's not a lot to ask!

Yes I live in tumble-down cottage with pretty pink roses climbing up the wall next to my front door, it's hard to spot my cottage because it's nestled away up a lane and surrounded by trees. I like to go walking each morning through the woods after I've fed my cats and collected the eggs from my chickens. I don't have any other responsibilities, so I enjoy gardening in my little plot where I grow everything.

I have a log fire to keep me warm, and I wear woolly shawls and jumpers.

I actually feel like this past weekend I’ve been living my fantasy life in real life! Spent the weekend at the park Saturday and then at the beach Sunday with my husband, our daughter, family & friends, picnic outside, fish & chips on the sand, watched the dog have a swim in the sea and then have a nap on the sand. Baby slept through the night BOTH NIGHTS - probably from so much time playing outside!

Then woke up this morning to the miserable weather being back😂 so I actually think my life pretty much is my fantasy life, the only thing I need to change is the weather and it would be perfect!

This fantasy sounds blissful.
I may have to move from my fantasy beach to become your neighbour.

Mines a bit more fantasy than these. It involves either working a starship or being a mars colonist. I don't spend as much time plotting storylines as I used when I was younger but still enjoy it when I'm lying in the bath or on a sunbed or similar.

CrazylazyJane · 10/03/2025 12:21

My fantasy life involves me living near the sea. I spend my days writing children's books or dabbling in something else creative, baking cakes for charity cake sales / coffee mornings, walking a dog and meeting friends for lunch or coffee. All this fits around my 4 impossible adorable and utterly polite children.

Isn’t it funny that your actual
life could be someone else’s fantasy life.

Know one would want my life lol.

I’m actually scared of fantasy in case I drift into full blown delusion. How much time does fantasy life take for those of you that have one, or is it a drifting off to sleep at night exercise?

Zae134 · 10/03/2025 12:26

In my fantasy life I live in a lovely country cottage where I somehow never encounter a spider. I run a small bookshop which makes a moderate profit and allows me the chance to flirt with the owner of the bakery from across the cobbled road outside. I collect eggs from my chickens and buy groceries from the local farmers market, and spend my free days wearing chunky knit cardigans and taking my dog for long walks (possibly near the sea somewhere).
Ah, if only!

For me its drifting off to sleep at night its the only way to shut my brain up.

For me it's a drifting off to sleep or when I've nothing else to occupy my brain. There is something called maladaptive daydreaming when it gets out of control and takes over.

icelolly12 · 10/03/2025 12:34

No but I'm inspired to create one now!

Fstt1978 · 10/03/2025 12:38

for me , it's when I am walking to work , or driving

I even made myself a NYC playlist! My fantasy wardrobe is a big wool coat, trainers and a cashmere beanie - and really cool headphones

I love the idea of a fantasy life playlist! I need one for when I'm imagining a windswept walk down the coast.

Thankyou. How would one know if it had started to become maladaptive.. I guess one has to keep it as a bedtime story within set confines and not for example walk down the street thinking one is somewhere else.

MoodyMargaret11 · 10/03/2025 12:51

Living somewhere in nature - beautiful, peaceful and safe. Palm trees and ocean a short walk away, a temple or meditation centre also nearby, fresh market and all vegan/eco community.

LetMeGoogleThat · 10/03/2025 13:00

I've got several, but the main one is living in Venice, Dorsoduro to be precise. I wander down to the fish and veg markets, obviously looking stunning in beautiful clothes. Sometimes, I stop for a vino and a few Cicchetti on the way back to my gorgeous apartment.

Eastie77Returns · 10/03/2025 14:20

Beaches and bookshops seem to feature quite a lot in fantasy lives, I’m no different.

In my ideal life, I’m a published author and my book has been turned into a film. The royalties, or whatever authors get, mean I never have to work again. However I don’t like to remain idle so I work part time in an independent bookshop.

I live near a small beach that doesn’t attract hoardes of visitors in the summer. I go to outdoor Pilates classes there.

I travel several times a year. I have a cute little summer house in Norway or Sweden. I also visit the South of France every year for a couple of months.

I drive a Nissan Figaro.

TheGirlWhoLived · 10/03/2025 14:24

My current fantasy life is that I have nobody around me that needs me. No children, no extended family, no husband. So I wake up and just do exactly what I want, all the time, with nobody else’s mess or rubbish to deal with.

I don’t think it would be my fantasy before long because I’d miss the kids a bit, and I’d have to make my own coffee so dh best come back too

My real life is OP’s fantasy, two exceptions I live in London and my commute is a 30 minute bus ride. I genuinely love it but my fantasy life would be a cosy cottage or cabin right on the beach in a hot tropical country.
