Why order food when not hungry

Went to a chain restaurant where pay for food before getting it.

There was a group of people to table side of us. They ordered burgers, onion rings, fries and drinks. They had food served by waitress. The most someone ate was about 8 mouthfuls. Then all left saying to waitress that not hungry.

if you are not that hungry, don’t order a full meal!

Welcome to late stage capitalism

Maybe it was horrible but they didn’t want to complain

maybe they’re a group of ED sufferers

Maybe the portions were too big

who knows basically

Maybe they didn't like but didn't want to appear rude.

Imagine being in a restaurant and noticing how many mouthfuls of food other people ate.

Really?

It never ceases to amaze me how much food/drink people leave. In the coffee shop I go in regularly,I frequently see cups of drink left with only a few sips taken sitting on tables,or toasted sandwiches with a couple of bites taken out then just discarded. And it's not as if it's cheap either. You talking about £3.50 - £4 for a coffee and nearly £6 for a toasted sandwich. I always think why on earth buy it if you're going to leave most of it?!

Not gonna lie. I have never seen this happen. Ever.

It’s like rent isn’t it? They order something because they want to sit at the table and spend time with someone else and you have to order something to do so.
