Coughing up blood

I’m worried about someone . I don’t know if this person comes on here - doubt it , but don’t want them to know how worried I am, so I’m going to be very vague .

Someone in my life went to the doctor for being unwell with a cough . They have noticed coughed up specks of blood in mucus. Been referred for an xray to check it’s not coming from their lungs - but not sent straight away.

They smoke , have done on and off for about 40 years ( gave up for 10 ) .

Is it concerning ??

Could be. But it also could be something like chest infection/pneumonia where heavy coughing brings up blood stained mucus.

I know it's easy for me to say, but you can do nothing until the x rays and other tests come back.

It’s being investigated, so try not to worry yourself until you know the situation. Worry changes nothing, and just makes you miserable. It could be nothing, it might be something. Hold onto hope until you’re told otherwise x

Well, they’ve done exactly the right thing because it needs to be checked out. Until the results come back, the best thing is not to worry unnecessarily.

Yes, but there are many possible causes. Coughing a lot can cause the bleeding.
