Getting lumped in with lazy colleague

I feel I'm getting lumped in with lazy colleague. He is chatty and lazy and thinks we are a duo cos in the same team and same roles. He's quite incompetent. The Manager is starting to take a dim view of him totally.

We just had a new colleague in the team who is great. I have been looking for a promotion for a long time. However since the new person started, the lazy colleague is trying to lump me in with his antics and I'm starting to really worry that we look like a couple of idiots.

I dont know what to do as I've been really working hard and im getting the impression that the Manager isnt taking me seriously anymore and we look like a pair of clowns. I dont know what to do.

Can you clarify what it look like in practice? What specifically does he do which "lumps you together"?

He keeps making out we are a comedy duo. Like we are a couple of clowns. He's really unprofessional and eggs people on and always trying to include me. It's getting embarrassing.

Just say "Oh for Christ's sake Malcolm, do shut up".

<nb: If he isn't called Malcolm, use his actual name>

You do need to start distancing yourself or just have a quiet word with ‘lazy’ colleague that you don’t want to be included in any jokes.

A little assertiveness from you is needed here.

Yes thanks. I was thinking I need to be more assertive.
