Sani or Ikos?

Trying to decide on summer holiday. We've always gone to Sani but last year (after a 4 year break) was a disappointment. Service levels have dropped, lots of new personnel who smile sweetly but don't actually do anything (think about having to call reception 5 times to get a bottle of water in the room, or waiting for 20 minutes for luggage to come down, transfers not being there on time etc). Also, rooms have clearly seen better days - at least in Sani Beach hotel. Prices have gone up 3x. That said, the beach is gorgeous, flight is short, transfer is short so that's a plus. It's now just the two of us - kids at uni - so don't need the family friendly bells and whistles. I was thinking Ikos? Seems to get better reviews on Tripadvisor/Google. Or anything else really. We had a few hellish years so feeling burnt out and don't have mental capacity to research a new destiantion/plan but open to other ideas - basically, a max 4 hr direct flight from London, max 1.5hr transfer, private beach, good food. Very grateful for any views on this!

If you feel like that about Sani then try Ikos this time but please avoid Ikos Oceania in Nea Moudania, jellyfish 🪼 in the sea from July, the beach is not private, so you will have random people walking all the time & it’s hilly.

I went to ikos odyssia in Greece last year and I wouldn’t go back. The restaurants and beach were amazing as was the service and the facilities.

however, the room and room service was not good. The room was not clean. The glass partition on the balcony was filthy. Worst of all a guy comes round to replace the towels at about 6pm at peak shower time. He actually walked into the room and straight into the bathroom when I was on the loo! That has put me right off it. No do not disturb signs even.

@Retirementsoon That’s a little bit like Sani was this time - may be it had always been this but I didn’t care as much because prices were reasonable but for what they charge now, I feel like an idiot. It’s the thoughtlessness like that and lack of attention to detail that grates.

May be, I do need ti put my research hat on and look for something new, may be adults only. I wonder if it’s an across the board drop in standards everywhere. Just came back from New York stating in the usual hotel and service was appalling. Plus they removed water from the rooms and the gym.

How about a Rixos place in Turkey? The one in Gocek always looked lovely.
