What are some US brands to avoid?

Following on from suggestions to boycott US products, it seems a lot of brands might be US-owned with a lot of consumers not realising.

Like Mondolez owning Cadbury for example.

What are some others?

I don't see much point in this thread, given that most of us use Microsoft Windows on our computers. So if you're going to give up on Burger King, Kraft etc, you would also have to give up on Microsoft. Good luck with that!

Purity politics is massively unhelpful.

It's obviously much, much better for everyone to do what they can instead of doing nothing because they can't do everything.

You could do a family taste test when it comes to Heinz alternatives 🥳 it’s actually quite fun
For Baked beans we like Aldi . We did a taste test with our kids comparing
Heinz ( which they’d never had anyway ) Aldi and Lidl and Aldi won 5/5

Still searching for non US dry cat food to support kidney function though and any decent dry dog food too. So many are US owned

Haven’t bought Heinz beans since discovering Lidl’s alternative called Newgate. Absolutely acceptable imo and less than half the price of Heinz.

All that will be achieved here is Mumsnetters will get the smug sense of moral superiority and lots of British jobs will be lost.

Globalisation is so embedded it is impossible to untangle ourselves from its web.

I want to shop in line with my principles as far as I can.

Agree. See the effect on Tesla already. It seems very specific and targeted and may have a real outcome on Elon Musk staying in government. And this is despite us mumsnetters still using Microsoft...

i have two fingers of Woodford Reserve left. On Friday evening I shall mix myself a final Manhattan, solemnly raise it in the direction of Canada, and sadly forswear the amber nectar for the foreseeable.

Haha I some Woodford Reserve in the corner myself. It’s been there about 2 years. If you’re in the North West you can have mine too 😄

I'm looking at these lists and thinking 🤔 the only things I usually buy off there is chocolate and I need to diet....this could work out really beneficial for me
